Striker enjoyed his time in Russia

Jo admits that leaving CSKA Moscow was a tough decision as he prepares to begin his Man City career.

The Brazilian striker is set to be unveiled at Eastlands on Wednesday, becoming new boss Mark Hughes' first signing since he replaced Sven Goran Eriksson in the City hotseat at the start of June.

The proposed deal for the 21-year-old is set to smash the Blues' transfer record and offers the youngster the chance to test himself in one of Europe's top leagues.

However, Jo revealed that he has found it difficult to turn his back on a Russian club who have helped nurture him into a much sought-after talent.

"There is a hard moment for every player - when you have to leave a club which is dear to you," he told CSKA's official website.

"CSKA is nothing less than a large family. I understood it quite well when I was injured, and every member of Army club was giving moral support to me.

Remarkable

"I spent two exciting years at CSKA. During this time I kept improving myself and my name became known in Europe.

"I would like to thank the CSKA president Evgeny Giner for his care of players and especially for every support I was given at CSKA.

"Many thanks to the head coach Valery Gazzaev who helped me to raise the level of my performance.

"I enjoyed working with all of my team-mates, and together we've won many remarkable trophies.

"I will always keep in my memory the days at CSKA and I wish great success to my former club."
