COLE TO SNUB KOP FOR SPURS
Joe wants £100k-a-week deal with old boss Harry

JOE COLE wants to join Champions League qualifiers Spurs.

Cole's Chelsea contract ends this summer and he would jump at the chance to be re-united with his old boss Harry Redknapp.

Spurs clinched a place in Europe's biggest club competition with their 1-0 win at Manchester City on Wednesday.

But Cole, 28, was already looking to White Hart Lane even before that result.

The England midfielder has been mulling over a huge offer from City themselves and knows of interest from Liverpool.

But he does not want to move north and Spurs would suit him if they can come up with wages over the £100,000-a-week mark.

However that could be a stumbling block as until now they have been reluctant to go above £60,000.

Redknapp nurtured Cole from the age of 14 at West Ham.

The Spurs boss is also interested in a fresh move for Craig Bellamy, whom he missed out on last year.

He is also keen on midfielder Steven Pienaar, who has 12 months left on his Everton contract.

FUDGE OFF MATE! No way are we going to break our wage budget for him. If we were talkin torres or gerrard, obv yes. We have better players than cole at the mo and if we DID need a type of player like him, Pienaar is the better player at the mo.

IF harry wants him, I hope levy makes it clear to harry that we aint getting fvcked over by cole whether it is a free transfer or not.

I like Joe Cole a lot, but would he fit into our system, does Harry plan to change our system, god knows. Top notch player, but I'm undecided.

Whatever, we can shop in Harrods now.

Good player undoubtably, however given our squad and the options we have in wide areas, plus his rumoured wage demands, I dont see the need for him.

And it begins.....

It'll be nice now though, instead of being linked, generally, with the average players, we'll now be linked with top players. On Talksport the other day, they were discussing Gerrard to Spurs 'cos we're CL and they're not. I know it'd never happen, but to hear something like that was quite pleasing, even it was coming from Durham's gob. I can't think of a time we've taken a player from a bigger Prem club in his prime. Cole isn't in his prime but it's good to see us linked in a positive way (ie, him choosing us over Liverpool) rather than the usual dross, even though there are no quotes and this is made up.

Anyhooo, i like Cole a lot but unless Harry's thinking of playing him behind the main striker, i can't see him replacing Modric or Bale on the left, unless one of them leaves. Although saying that, didn't he play central for Redknapp at West Ham? I know he's different to Hudd, but i wouldn't mind those 2 fighting for a spot. Both have great vision and skill etc. Still can't see it though. And not for 100k either, although that's also made up i'm sure.

Who would we drop for him? Bale or Modric? No thanks, and for 100k pw it's too much money to sit on the bench.

I don't think it's necessarily a case of having to drop someone for him. You need a squad in todays game and he would be an upgrade on many options we do have who regularly play or make our bench.

The wages are the stumbling block and Joe Cole is not an important enough signing to pay over the odds for.

I never trust the media when it comes to wages. Maybe he'll get a similar wage to Woodgate, and get a decent signing on fee. Afterall, he is a free transfer.

We've been linked with 3 of Harry's former players in Cole, Diarra and Carrick this morning. I wouldn't be surprised if Harry is interested in all 3.

We need a strong squad for next season. Yes we finished in the top 4 this season, but we didn't have the extra European games.

Next season we need player who are experienced in the Champions League. Joe Cole is on eof those players. I would be happy if we get him. Wages aren't my concern, i'll leave that down to the Chairman.

I just want as many top quality players as possible. I rate Cole very highly, and believe him to be good enough to strengthen the squad.

He's coming to the nd of his current contract with Chelsea which poses two immediate questions.

1. Why didn't Chelsea tie him down to a new contract over a year ago?

2. Why hasn't Cole signed a new contract?

We ned answers to those two questions because I suspect at the base of the expected answers would be his persistent injury record and his long term fitness viability.

He is injury prone, wage is far to high demand, we have Modric, Bale, Lennon, Bentley, Huddlestone, Palacios, Sandro, which of these would you drop for him.

He's a great player and you can never have to many of those, but I can't see where he would fit in to the current squad, unless Modric does move to Man U of course then it's a different story.

I think thats the key. I think an early move for Cole would be because we're losing Modric

Modric is sensational but we could be looking at Modric for Joe cole, carrick and still some spending money.

I would take him in a heartbeat, BUT not for them wages! no sir! Besides Levy is far too shrewd to get stung like that.

I'd definitely take him. I think Bentley will leave and Lennon always misses a fair few games. I don't think we'll break our wage structure, so if he signs it will be a good deal for us. I saw him come on to play on the right a few weeks back and thought he was brilliant. He doesn't look to have lost his pace, which is the key thing when players come back from long injuries. I think he's just struggled to get upto full match fitness, as he came back without a pre season after a long lay off. But if his basic pace is still there (though he's never been really fast), it means he probably just needs a full pre season to get back Prem fitness levels. He could do the jobs Gud and Bentley do for us now. With the extra games we'll have, I don't think he'll be short of oppotunities to impress.

Yep, you cannot pass on players like Joe Cole when they become available. You have to try and fit him into a system somehow.

Where, you ask?

I don't know i'm not the manager.
