But at some point you have to consider the fact he might not play football for the better part of a year and despite being pretty good on the pitch if you can't get on it because you are in jail not much point trying to sign him, which is what you wanted Spurs to do.
I hope at this point you have reconsidered your position and at least don't want him at Spurs anymore. While I agree we need some toughness in midfield Barton is not the man to do it.
I am prepared to bet that Joey Barton suffers from acute depression, possibly has some form of bi-polar disorder, uses alcohol to deal with it and is also sadly 'blessed' with a temper.
The guy is very obviously mentally ill, and further, it seems to me that Newcastle have absolutely failed to deal with it in a pro-active manner.
The guy needs serious help.
Look, I think he's a wanker to, but this latest "act" shows me he is actually mentally ill...
The sooner football/clubs start to look at problems like this in a proper light, the better.
The lad has issues, his problem is he's in the public eye so much as a "professional" footballer that anything he does will make the papers/news etc.
I don't condone what he has done, he's a thug, and I never want to see him wearing a Spurs shirt, but this kinda thing goes on in every major town across the country.
But anyone who thinks we should let this limited talented thug anywhere near WHL (unless he is painting the streets as part of his community service) is having a f***ing bubble.
He has been crap for Newcastle, he was never outstanding for Citeh and his personal record is disgusting.
