Let's hope he stays but if not that everything the club has done over the last few years in the new academy provides continuity. With Paul Mitchell in recruitment you would hope that our selections shouldn't suffer. Southampton's academy found Bale, Walcott, Moore and a host of others and he must have been involved in many of those

Its not paul mitchell's job to find academy players and he isn't accredited for finding them neither is anyone still at southampton who did find them. They all left, some got sacked before poch left and the others went to fulham

Our academy development is not dependent on 1 person. Its been a team effort for last 10 years & I guess, Levy has done everything possible to keep us in top 3 academies in UK. John Mcdermott leaving could be a big blow for us - but the structure that is already in place will ensure continuity. United may poach him, but its very difficult to replicate same structure.
Key in whole thing is manager. If United get Mourinho, whatever they do with academy will have little use.

We have to keep Poch at Spurs. He is the key to the entire academy operations. Academy graduates has to see a clear pathway to first team. With Poch, everyone knows whats required of them. Can't say the same thing with club like United in current operating environment

Paul Mitchell only started at Southampton in 2012 so he wouldn't have had anything to do with those three players being identified. He is only 34 years old, so very young for someone to be involved in recruitment.

I really hope the club do everything in their power to keep him here. I'd be as much, if not more gutted by this ad I would poch or any of our players going. This guy is the reason we have one of the best academy's in football.

Levy needs to pay him whatever he wants to stay.

There's a reason Luverpool took Inglethorpe and now Utd are trying to get McDermott, they recognise what good work they are doing and what a good academy we have.

Can't keep losing these people, have to say no to the big clubs.

McDermott is the 2nd most important employee at the club after Poch.

He (and Ingelthorpe, who we lost to Liverpool), built the academy pretty much from scratch over the past 11 years.

We can't lose him

To be fair, Inglethorpe got a promotion going to Liverpool.

He went from our academy #2 to Liverpool's #1, so he became McDermott's equivalent rather than deputy.

I appreciate what your saying about the value of having a manager willing to play academy products, but we still have to have a well organised and run academy for the players to develop in. McDermot is surely a massive part of that, and a reason why United and any number of clubs could be interested. He's an important part of the team, and needs to be given the financial incentive to stay.

Poch is easily replacable and wont last the year if there's a string of bad results. Same with every manager. Managers fluctuate. McDermott is infinitely more important than Poch, IMO. He's the real man responsible for Kane, Mason, Bentaleb, Townsend, Carroll, Rose, Onomah, Winks, Edwards, CCV, Bennetts, Sterling, etc.

I don't think his directly responsible I think there mums and dads where that cold night, then the scouting network and a hell of a lot of coaches but yes he has helped

I think that poch is pretty safe ATM it would take more than a string of bad results and I don't think he is easily replaceable how many good managerial appointments has levy made ? 2 rednapp and poch, Jol was because he sacked Santini and not directly chosen. So
I hope he backs this one as his track records poor.

It's hard to gauge his importance but Bentalab and mason seem to rate him, he has only been at spurs since. 2009 I think. If he was to go would anyone think about trying to get back frank ? I think john is replaceable as it's a very sort after job but I think our academy needs as much stability as pos ATM.

They were examples of the academy but obviously we're talking 10-15 years ago for Bale, Walcott. I would imagine that the player analysis team could be helpful in picking up 'established' youth players i.e. where they have recorded games and some stats etc. But anyway I don't think I/we really know who says what when players are talked about. Who rated who and who didn't. So it's conjecture

Why would you leave an academy which is now paying dividends and you are well respected to join a club with absolutely no clear vision into the future

Is there some possibility LVG getting the bullet some time soon (in my opinion) could halt any potential chase, until a new manager is appointed?
Personally you'd feel McDermott would be keen to continue the project he is right in the midst of, seeing the pipeline of players starting to flow nicely to the first team, especially with a manager who favours that approach, and at one of the best training facilities in Europe.
