SPURS boss Martin Jol is ready to bid £3million to land Watford's Ashley Young when the transfer window opens next week.

The White Hart Lane chief is looking for a left-sided midfielder after failing to sign Stewart Downing or Luis Boa Morte in August.

Although Young has been playing as a central striker for the Hornets for much of this season Jol sees the 21-year-old as the potential solution.

i haven't seen much of Watford, and therefore haven't seen much of young Mr Young. I've heard some good things about him, but I've also heard that he's over-rated. Can anyone give me some prospective. thanks

I know Keith Burkinshaw rates him very highly. Even though he is playing in a crap team that is struggling to get anything out of games he has done quite well and should have scored against us I remember.

    Sceptical...

Apart from Ben Foster (who as we all know is ManUSA property) and perhaps (I've only seen him play twice) the injured Marlon King, I've never seen any potentially class players when I've seen Watford on the box.

Young seems decent, but I'm not sure if he has the potential to play for a team hunting for Europe...but if we buy him, I hope he proves me wrong.

Not good enuf for us in my opinion.

Ashley Young is class in my opinion, the kid has some serious skills and they're not seein the best of him by playin him up front, he does all his good work on either wing but has always been a regular left winger. They also have a young kid who is on the left for them at the mo who is also good so there's a chance they'd let Ashley leave to get the money for a striker that they need more!

    Sign him up!

How can annyone say he's not good enough. He's only 21 and its his 1st season in the premiership. I think he's got just as much potential as Routledge and he can play wide on the left. I think he's worth a shot.

This is the 1st time in a couple of years that im not that fussed about whether or not we sign a left midfielder. I think we've gotten used to not having a natural left footer out on the left.

Sign Ashley Young up! A great player IMO, saw a bit of him last year and he really impressed me. I thought he'd do well in the Premiership and he has done so, his best game may have been against Fulham this year (scored twice in a 3-3 draw) and I saw Watford-Man Utd on TV this year and he was by far their most dangerous player

Doubt we'll get him for £3 they rate him very high in Watford.

you'll have to forgive me for this estimation, but i can't remember the website for the goals in the championship last season. i put young in my ff team because... from left wing, he scored more that 15 goals.

i can't say i've ever sat down and watched him regularly, but he is dangerous, fast, skillful, young and english. oh, and he can cross.

I watch Watford v Reading a couple of weeks back and Ashley Young was one bright light in a really poor team.

Whether he's good or not is slightly beside the point. We have apparently signed Taarabt and have been promising him first team football fairly soon. If this is true, and we have paid $3.5m, we have no place for anyone else to play on the left. Reto Ziegler will probably have to go, and Taarabt will cover for Malbranque, so talk of buying Ashley Young, Giles Barnes, or Pedersen is wide of the mark. We can even stop talking about offering Middlesborough ever more money for Downing. We need, maybe, some cover at left back and centre back in case of injuries, and that is all, unless we are going to create discontent among the players and be forced to have another clearout or send a lot of players out on loan.

Whilst he does stand out at Watford, I don't think he'd quench Spurs fans thirst for someone truly exceptional. I'm all for us signing young english talent in a position we need strengthening and this isn't to say that he wouldn't do a fine job for us; but we have lots of money. Why not go out and spend big to address an area where we REALLY need a top player? We won't progress until we get another top talent on the left wing.

I was just thinking that he wouldnt be good enough and then i remembered that a lot of people including myself thought a certain player signed from Wigan wouldnt cut it either??

Quality player. I say sign him up. Two problems, they wont let him leave in January and he will cost a lot more than 3 million if he was to leave.

Frustration speaking, and frustrated and wishing.....

    Mourinho post Fulham:
"What can you do with (Michael) Ballack? Nothing. What can you do with Geremi? Nothing. The players have no qualities adapted to the game opponents are playing against us - it is as obvious as that.

    Sell them to us?

    Happy New Year folks.
