Martin Jol will follow Arsene Wenger's example and rest some of his big guns for today's FA Cup tie with Southend - and is praying that it does not become unlucky 13.

Dutchman Jol admits that some of his players were left drained after Spurs blew a two-goal lead and were held by Arsenal's kids in their Carling Cup semi-final.

Jol is set to rest centre-half Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and some other big names.

He will give a debut to new signing Ricardo Rocha as well as promoting some fringe players and kids to face Southend.

It is a rematch of their Carling Cup tie when Tottenham just squeezed through in extra time.

Jol said: "It is so important for us to go to the next round of the FA Cup but there's a few players we have to rest.

"We haven't lost a cup game in 12 matches. This is number 13 but I am not superstitious!"

Well, it sure feels as if we just lost one. Nevermind bad luck and don't gamble today, Martin. The FA Cup is our best chance of qualifying for Europe next season as a place in the final could be enough. We need the the strongest possible side out. It's not as if we murdered Southend on their last visit.

Don't bother rising to the bait - it's only more stirring by the Mirror again!

It's interesting that Huddlestone already qualifies as a "big name" in Mirror-land.

I'm happy with this, as long as (a) Jol has some senior players on the bench and (b) he starts using them before 75 minutes if we're not in control of the match.

I also think it's essential that we play Lennon. They shouldn't be able to cope with him unless they double-team him and that should open up some spaces for the rest of us. It's not as if Lennon has had an exhausting run of matches.

    Team for me would be:

    Cerny

    Stalteri Gardner Rocha Assou-Ekotto

    Lennon Zokora Ghaly Murphy

    Keane Mido

Bench: Alnwick, Defoe, Dawson, O' Hara, Lee.

agreed except i'd have lennon on the bench, ghaly on the right, and o'hara in the middle, and also would have ziegler either on the bench ahead of lee or in the team ahead of murphy!

would like to see some players rested, but would also like to give new players a chance and hopefully find some new alternatives for the future.

Murphy on the left, please god now...he is a decent player but not there.

Isnt Stalteri injured? might see Ifil (not out on loan is he) on the right but probs will be Lee, i'd like to see Ziegler start on the left flank and if he's fit i'd like to see Barney get a start and introduce Mido later on to ease him back to fitness.

    Cerny
    Lee Rocha Gardner Assou-Ekotto
    Lennon Zokora O'Hara Ziegler
    Keane Barnard

    Alnwick, Dawson, Ghaly, Murphy, Mido.

    COYS!

Never Forget it's a business and Jol has to appease the fans after the Scum Debacle.

Full strength team to play. Mido and/or Berbs to play in between. Murphy etc on the bench. We need a confidence building win and Jol will take no chances.

Lennon seemed shattered at the end of the game vs arsenal.

    Gamble paid off. Excellent
