Martin Jol is hopeful Jermaine Jenas will only be out for another couple of days after missing out on England duty with an ankle knock.

'JJ' is out of the squad to face Spain in a friendly at Old Trafford on Wednesday with the injury he picked up in the Carling Cup loss at Arsenal last week. That ruled him out of Sunday's clash against Manchester United.

Martin reported this afternoon: "As everyone knows, JJ had a little stress fracture in his ankle, so he couldn't play for a couple of months and then he had a very good game when he returned against Southend in the FA Cup.

"His second game against Arsenal was okay but he had a knock on his ankle and that meant he was out again at the weekend.

"Hopefully he'll be back in the next couple of days because we need his mobility and aggression in there.

"The same applies for Teemu Tainio. He missed the weekend with a throat infection but again, he's improving and hopefully he will be back because he will also give us a bit of grit in there."

hope he is not out for to long we really need him back, soon as possible

Yes him and Huddlestone would be a great central midfield partnership, Huddlestone holding midfield and Jenas is the box to box player who closes players down and is the ball winner in the team. Would like to see some changes now, why not play a 3-4-3. Could see this working with Chimbonda, King, Dawson as the centre backs.
Upfront -Keane on the left like he played against chelsea with Berbatov in the centre knocking and heading the ball to Defoe and Keane.

    I'd like to see a different player playing the holding role as I think hudd needs a break. I think ghaly could do it better than zokora and could be very effective away from home. Team for saturday;

    Robbo
    Chimbs daws tg lee
    Lennon ghaly jenas steed
    Berby keane

We need to learn to win ugly.

Maybe we should re-sign the ginger Pele.

Just start to browse this SC for past few months and not regularly... Who is this ginger pele that we r talking about?

    Super Gary Doherty!

now there was a player....ahh the good old days

Best performance this season from a central midfield duo was Jenas and Zokora away at besikstas IMO, I'd like to see it a few more times plenty of pace and box to box from both players.

Gary Dohert was a good player, until he broke his leg against Everton ! I remember when pleat had something for Ginger..

I know we are all lamenting theloss of Ledley King, rightly so, but am I mistaken in tghinking that our "dip" has coincided with JJ being out injured?
  11. DCSPUR
JJ is important to the team....King is vital
  12. DC_Boy
yep JJ is important for us - I also think that Salty and Chimbonda should play in the same team, to give us extra physical presence

I wish we had kept hold of Pedro Mendes. Surely the club knew at the time that Carrick was mucking them about, and they should have let him go on loan to Portsmouth instead of selling him.

The only "hard man" we have as such is Tainio, and he is so hard that he spends most of his time in the treatment room.

Salty we were told when he was purchased was supposed to be able to play in both full-back positions as well as either wing, but we've only really used him at RB.
  15. BringBack_leGin
Gary Doherty was by far the bravest footballer we ahve had since Graham Roberts, and I include Dawson in that!

Just a thought... NO KEANE OR DEFOE.

Keane is to hit and miss to ever be the striker we need, and in reality, just not good enough
Defoe is (much as I have very vigourously defended him in the past) not powerful enough or (lets face it) tall enough to be a centre forward, and tho technically he is good, he hasn't god the movement to be a second striker in the hole.

HOW ABOUT MIDO and BERBATOV (oh wait, Jol hates Mido)

ok, how about (when full strength)

    ...................Robinson
    Chimbonda Dawson King Ekotto
    ...............Huddlestone
    ...........Jenas.......Zokora
    Lennon.........................Malbranque
    ...............Berbatov

as our team, eventually either signing a playmaker to replace Zokora, or a left winger to replace Malbranque, with Malbranque moving into Zokora's position. And don't give me any "Malbranque, Huddlestone and Jenas won't be tenecious enough" crap, Barcelona play with Deco, Xavi and Motta, while Man U play with Scholes and Carrick. Besides, as my 2nd team i'm about to write will show, there are tenecious players to come in when the occasion commands it.
    ................Cerny
    Stalteri Rocha Gardner Lee
    ...............Tainio
..........Ghali....O'Hara (yes, a youngster god forbid)
    Defoe......................Keane
    ................Mido

and yes, i have Football manager on this but i don't care, i'm bored god dammit!

    ...................Robinson
    Chimbonda Dawson King Ekotto
    ...............Huddlestone
    ...........Jenas.......Zokora
    Lennon.........................Malbranque
    ...............Berbatov

I think that formation would be very interesting.....although I prefer lee to ekotto and Rocha could play while king is injured. perhaps switch hudd and zokora around.....keane could then come on for malbranque in the second half if he tires (after covering the entire wing which he does very well). lets see it this weekend

"HOW ABOUT MIDO and BERBATOV (oh wait, Jol hates Mido)"

That's something I had been thinking about - going to Brammel Lane I reckon that pairing will cause more concern to the Blades defence that any other.

I know bmj won't go for it ...but L'pool usually start with Crouch and Kyut and it seems to work for them.

For the record, I'm losing faith in Zokora
