    SPURS NEWS:

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR assistant manager Chris Hughton has paid tribute to Martin Jol for the work he has done at the club.

    Source: theSpursweb

The Dutchman celebrated his 100th game in charge last Sunday during the 2-1 win at Manchester City on Sunday and Hughton believes that the progress Spurs have made in the past two years are down to the Spurs boss.

"It has been a very good couple of years and of course Martin takes huge credit for that," said Hughton.

"Whether he's been understated, I don't know, but his achievements over the last couple of years and the development we've shown and the progress we've made is testament to his qualities as a coach and a manager."

Hughton was then asked if Spurs are targeting some silverware this season: "We very much hope so.

"We were able to be consistent last season, this campaign hasn't started as well as we wanted but at this stage we are very close. Our aim is to be consistently up there and challenging for trophies."

I would also like to pay tribute to our fine coach and Manager Jol, may he continue for years to come.

best manager weve had in my time as a spurs fan. He's got the lot. Tactical awareness, good man management, modesty, everything. and to top it all off, he seems like a bloody nice bloke as well. Thanks BMJ, your a legend and we love you.

I too would like to pay huge praise to Martin but would also say what a great management team we have full stop. I think Mr Jol would agree that Chrissy, Hans, Clive indeed the whole board are all doing a great job of taking Spurs forward and long may it continue.

I know that this is the Xmas period and we all tend to be more generous than normal, however I'd like to add my congrats to M.J. as having been a Spurs supporter for 1/2 a century now, apart from Billy Nick and Keith Burkenshaw, we've had too much dross in the management area.

Hats off to Daniel Levy also, for his enormous part in turning Spurs around from a mid-table mediocre team into one that is now challenging on all fronts for local and international honours.

    QUE VIVA LOS SPURS y
    FELIZ NAVIDAD A TODOS

Bring us the silverware. End our misery. If not now, then when ? Period.

While i accept that we are in a much healthier position now than when he took over, and I hope he is our manager for many years to come because that would indicate success for him and the regime in place, i still think that he is very much still learning his trade and not the finished article yet. Some of his decisions do make me wonder and both the rotating team and the rotating transfer door need to be addressed and calm down. I have every faith that he will bring us success, but in terms of where we are and where we need to be we're not even halfway up the hill yet!

This guy is doing a great job and long may it continue. Just hope he knows that most fans are realistic and patient. Top four next season is a reasonable target (even this season if things work out perfectly) but I hope we go for steady progress and not another frenzy of ins and outs in the Jan window.

Whilst I am a big admirer of the work done by Jol and his team, I still feel the biggest praise should go to Levy. This is the man who has turned us from the proverbial sleeping giants to being on the brink of cracking the big four through sound business sense and patience. He went through the barrage of abuse for not replacing Hoddle straight away and leaving the club in Pleats hands, so as to make sure he didn't replace mediocrity with more of the same. Granted the Santini experiment didn't quite work but the continental system principle paid dividends with Arnesen maintaining the norm as Jol settled in and Jol being the constant as Commolli settled in. We are in a healthy state finacially with the club no longer throwing good money after bad. Between them Levy, Commolli and Jol are more than prepared to wait for the right man rather than waste on second rate panic buys. We have a strong backbone of talented English players which means when England squads are selected there can't be many teams represented better than us. We have top rate youngsters in our reserves and academy from home and abroad. And to show what a forward thinking club we now are, there is talk of linking up with Brugge (regulars in europe in their own right) so as to help recruit and develop the worlds best youngsters into potential Spurs stars.

Just want to make 1 comment... Sadly enough at the beginning of the season there were Spurs fans wanting Jol out.. cause of the first couple of poor results.

To those "fans": YOU ARE FICKLE!!!

Think you'll find its not that people have changed their minds. The people who want him out have just gone quiet at times like this and when we next lie down and lose as we seem to sometimes they will be back to say 'dint I tell you so, MJ out!!'.
