Juande Ramos does indubitably appear to be a very competent man to replace Martin Jol. Especially considering his recent merits at Sevilla.

He will most likely bring more discipline and structure along him, which we so desperately lack.

But there is one thing that Juande seem to lack that Jol has... The indefinable X-factor.

The board has spent a "staggering" amount of cold cash securing the services of señor Ramos, which is the main motiv behind his decision to leave Sevilla for Spurs.

There is no doubt that Jol has not exactly been starved by the board, but Jol's motivation to help Spurs achieving its long-sought goal of breaking into the Top-4 appeared to be more genuine, as he truly loves this club. But hey, that's modern football/business...

Juande may be the man to bring back the glory days to our beloved spurs, but one thing he will never gain is the cult status of BMJ!

BMJ, I salute you sire:clap:

Good thread, I was considering posting something like this. I agree. There is that distinct difference. The very fact that Ramos is leaving a club where he won back to back UEFA Cups and took them to the Champions League and where the fans would obviously love him for what he has done with them, says that money played a key factor in luring him. If he's prepared to dump them like that and he's only in it for the money, then there is that fear that he'll do the same to us in the future. I mean, right now I cannot see what else attracted him... However, could it be that he see's this to be the next step in his career? To manage an English side before he retires? I hope so, this might keep him around. But Jol had a love affair with the club and this is the ideal situation, when you have a manager that manages for the shirt. And that, quite rightly Jewisrael, was the X-factor with Jol.

My underlining thought of the matters surrounding Spurs is that we treated our best manager in years with utter disregard and a lack of class, 'Same O'l Tottenham. This club has a history of shooting themselves in the foot and predictably proceeded to do the same thing by undermining Jol so early in the season.

Jol as we all witnessed so dramatically during the mid-week-game got the SACK, IMO he should have been aloud the season to sort it out, considering his achievements over the last two seasons. Ramos is the perceived new messier of the Lane and comes with a half decent record but nothing special IMO apart from his achievements at Seville, a team inherited and not built by Ramos. He comes to a club run by directors from the Alan Sugar school of the episode apprentice. Members with classless behavior in full view of the media spotlight, impatient and panic stricken by what is debated through the media spectrum a Spurs board baying for success because they spent 40M nuggets, a sum matched and beaten by other clubs in the league.

Will Ramos be given time ????????? ...............NO

Will Ramos be another C Gross or Santini????????...........Hmmm

Will his grasp of English be ridiculed ??????..................YES

I personally think the media have won again. They continually touted us to break into the top 4 (SKY) and the Board where to impatient falling hook-line-and-sinker for the bait.

Jol was just not good enough.

I'm delighted that we have appointed Ramos. In fact, I think by way of celebration of his appointment we should rename White Hart Lane - the Juande House.

Martin Jol helped to bring back some real respectability to Spurs, for too long we were seen as laughing stocks, for that we shud all be very gratefull.

YES he was shafted by the board and his dismissal was a shambles, why cant the Spurs board cant conduct their business behind closed doors?? Managers getting sacked by text message!! It was all handled disgracefully, but if you live by the sword you die by the sword.

BMJ was brought to Spurs as assistant to Santini, we all know Santini didnt want him, Santini's man was Cuperly. Santini told friends he knew BMJ was waiting for his chance, waiting with a knife ready to stab him in the back & take his job! Thats the way in FOOTBALL!!

Ramos is here and has shown that he has a desire to be the best, that is what we need, a leader who is not frightened to stand toe to toe with the heavy weights and give as good as he gets. Watching from the West Stand against the Scum all i saw was a team who lacked leadership on & off the pitch, as soon as Fabrecas scored you cud feel the confidence in the entire stadium deflate. Personally i think BMJ brought us as far as he cud, now i believe we have the man to take us forward. BMJ i thank you but from here on in it's "only one Juande Ramos" for me!

I agree, I'm little concerned whether we'll be able to hold on to him if he's successful, especially considering his previous record. On the other hand just being successful would be fine at the moment.

Seriously though, if we get the stadium plans going and really push on then maybe Ramos will feel he can do it with us.

The reasons people think Jol wasn't good enough are many and varied, you might disagree, but don't pretend it's a simple case of finishing fifth twice... and especially don't pretend we've a pretty crap team, that only makes you case weaker I'm afraid.

A pretty crap team?

On paper our team is miles better than the likes of Everton, Blackburn, Pompey, and probably slightly better than even Arsenal.

The difference is, their managers are getting the best out of what they've got and are doing pretty damn well, we've not even addressed the defencive problems that were obvious last season.

I think Jol with Arneson would have got us a very differnet result.
That being said, im looking forward to someone who can better coach Lennon and the rest of our young players. We have potential world beaters there, and I think development of players is something that the coaching set up has to bite the bullet for.

Yep .

These failings have been at Spurs for decades before Jol arrived .

When Arneson was here he took responsability for trying to improve them .

Not Commoli is here and everything since the year dot is Jol's fault .
