Tottenham turn attention to Bournemouth's Josh King in effort to strengthen attack

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to launch a bid for Bournemouth forward Josh King, following the south coast club’s spending spree.

Bournemouth broke their transfer record to sign Nathan Ake for £20million from Chelsea and, including wages, that deal, together with the free transfer signing of Jermain Defoe, will cost well in excess of £50m.

Asmir Begovic has also joined for around £10m and Spurs will offer Bournemouth the chance to recoup some cash on 25-year-old King.

Mauricio Pochettino’s need for a forward who can play across front line has been increased by the fact that Son Heung-min could miss the start of the season after breaking his arm and Erik Lamela is out until October.

King caught Pochettino’s eye by scoring 16 Premier League goals last season and is contracted to Bournemouth until 2020.

Pochettino has made it clear that he is chasing versatile players and King is able to play through the middle, either on his own or with a partner, and can start out wide.

Bournemouth are likely to demand £30m for King and it remains to be seen whether or not Spurs would be willing to make the Norway international their joint record signing with Lamela and Moussa Sissoko.

King hinted he would be interested in a move to Tottenham by saying: “I was intrigued even being mentioned in the same sentence as Spurs, a big team who play in the Champions League.”

Probably could do a job for us but not exactly very inspiring, especially for the figure mentioned.

Really. I don't rate him personally. Think he would struggle to play for a side that has to face bus parkers each weekend.

I like King but he's not worth £30M unless we are talking about a straight swap for Sissoko .

We spent £30m on a player who had done well for about 5% of a season.

And most people agree that was a mistake. Even then you could say he was a French International who had a good Euros and had at times over a few seasons shown some quality.
King was a meh a best championship player that had done nothing of note for the clubs he's played for including Bournemouth, until the last 3rd of this season where out of nowhere he starts banging them in.
I'd not be fully against signing him but 15M would be fair for a striker who has shown 1 purple patch during his career

I love the way we Spurs fans are shocked that a striker who score sixteen times last year is called at £30mil but reckon a right back is worth more than £50mil.
We could probably get him for less but even so he is a premier league striker.

We would not deal nowhere near that for him. Cut it to circa 16-18m then possible. Cannot see it myself.

Might be a good option if Vince would leave, want to see him stay for another year though.

We are seeing the problem the wrong way.

Kane is our no1. But we need a back up striker, who is within our wage limit, has quality to score goals, but should be ok to play 2nd fiddle. Josh King ticks all the boxes. And he has scored 16 goals in his first PL season playing as a striker.

He comes from United academy, which means he does have good technical upbringing. Looking back, it seems constantly being on move & unable to find a proper team & position has affected his growth.

Bournemouth are very much a team that follows our template - energetic, high press and quick football. He could slot in to the team without much work.

He isnt a one trick pony like Ighalo. He scores variety of goals - left & right foot, headers, tapin, long range , one V one. He runs the channel well, so potentially could complement Kane being in same XI. 30m fee does look on high side. But that is the normal rate unfortunately today for a PL scorer...

A comparison on some key stats from last season...

King has very good takeon success rate - suggest he gets past his opponent. His goals one V one shows that. He has high passing rate. And his shooting accuracy is on high side. His chance creation needs to improve. But then if he finds the net thats good enough.

Point is, instead of casting aside him as a average player, we need to see if he will fit our philosophy & integrate into system easily. If these numbers are anything to go by, he will be an upgrade on Janssen.

I like King. £30m sounds insane but all transfer fees are insane these days.

Telegraph still peddling the Lamela £30m myths as well all these years later. Fucknuts.

Chunky on COYS mentioned his name yesterday. It was more in passing than as info though......or so we thought at the time. Maybe not?

Edit: just looked back through his posts and on 16 May he said he'd heard we'd agreed a deal to get Josh King. So maybe there is something in it.
