Agreed, I hope I am wrong and he gets another loan next year and this is all part of the learning curve for him. He has so much talent so I hope he takes a look at Harry and knuckles down and works hard. Would love to see him come through and be a starter for us.
Harry kane career kicked off when he was integrated in our first team properly with first team players rather than with players who had no future at the club

Comment from a Villa fan on Reddit confirming what has been said elsewhere, he started well but now he's really bad.

At the beginning of the season he looked good, a real talent with a need for refinement and to discover his true position.

I confess to being an England fan just as much as I'm a Villan. So I was excited he joined us on loan and for him to get some playing time in a tough league.

The reality as it stands is he's been god awful to watch for the last couple of months.

He is lazy, doesn't chase balls down, doesn't seem to have any situational awareness and doesn't seem to care about pulling the shirt on.

Today summed it up, when he came off we bagged 3 goals and won the match.

I hope you as the reader feel that this isn't a knee jerk reaction, he's been simply awful for the last few games he's played, to the point I don't understand why he's being picked.

Granted we have Grealish and Adomah out injured, as is why he got to feature today I would imagine.

My over-riding feeling is one of disappointment. He started well for us at the beginning of the season, but he's been steadily declining in terms of quality and commitment in a Villa shirt.

He almost always starts as an AM, and he does seem to link up well with Keinan Davis when he gets a game, but can't seem to link up with any other players.

I hoped Terry would have influenced him to be hungry and committed like he has done with all of our other youth players - Onomah really has no fire about him.

I hope things change, and Steve Bruce must see something in him in training, but the general consensus with the Villa fans is we'd rather send him back.

Perhaps he hasn't bonded with our coaching staff, maybe he just hasn't settled well in Brum, but he's wasting an opportunity here to show Poch what he's capable of which is a genuine shame.

True, but Ive got mates who are Millwall & Leyton Orient fans and they absolutely love Kane. When Kane was at Millwall he was played out of position at Left Wing and scored a lot of good goals and the fans loved every second of having him. That, for me, is the fundamental difference at the minute, which is why I hope he gets another loan move to do better as this one isn't working out for him yet.

There is still plenty of time for him to come good.

Onomah will be fine, imo - he's just fallen victim to Spurs' propensity to choose dreadful loans.

Thing is, he is not an attacking mid. Funny how this poster mentions being an England fan but fails to emphasize that JO's best performances for the U20's and younger levels have been as a CM.

Think that's it for him, if he's not putting the work in at Villa then that will hardly endear himself to Poch, you can only blame the loanee so much but if not as if he's not getting matches.

I'm tired of people comparing him to Harry Kane just because they both have had failed loans. Kane has become a monster because of hard work and dedication rather than natural talent, quite opposite to most of the wonder boys being hyped up from the age of 15.

Just onions.

All quite concerning really, thanks for posting.

There's still time for Onomah to turn it around, he's younger than Mason was when Mason broke through (though at youth level Mason posted ridiculous figures and looked almost prodigal)but at this point all this loan seems to have achieved is confirming what Onomah's doubters felt about him.

Why does the view of one Villa fan on Reddit matter? Would it be a fair reflection of Lamela if Francis Gibbs gave his view on Reddit?

I think the worrying thing is that it doesn't seem to be an isolated viewpoint going off various comments over the past few weeks.

That said, Leicester fans hate Harry Kane s maybe it's folly to trust a Nort...Midlander :D

It ‘matters’ to me because I don’t watch Villa but remain interested in Onomah’s progress there. Yes it’s one person’s opinion, but unless you’ve got a Family Fortunes style survey of a hundred Aston Villa fans up your sleeve I’m afraid it’ll have to do.

Don't worry mate. He's always like this. If we all had that attitude, why would we care about anyones opinion?

It may be down to Onomah, it may be down to Aston Villa and/or Steve Bruce, but that posts reflect what seems to be the general opinion from Villa fans regarding Josh.

Danny Rose was not good on loan until he was playing in the premiership with Sunderland...however I think Poch expects as a minimum that you work hard. Poor performances, in ineffective situations you can put down to the manager/players around you, but no manager tells a player not bother working, so there is no excuse for that (unless he is really depressed in Birmingham, which is something that club should have addressed in January)

Even a very good loan spell at Villa wouldn't guarantee he could transfer that to the Premier League.

Sometimes loans for younger players are not just about the footballing side of the game, but to help them mature and learn to deal with situations they wouldn't normally be accustomed to. Some of what he's learnt through training and some of what he's learnt simply through passive experience may all come together as he matures emotionally and physically over the next few years and could help his footballing brain.

Not sure you can write him off based on what's said above.

Steve Bruce's anti football seems to be catching up with him. Tanked by QPR, now about to lose to Bolton.

Ben Alnwick in goal for Bolton too. If you can't score against him you've got to be ashamed of yourselves.

And yet they beat Wolves just before those two games...

Since the new year Wolves haven't been sweeping everyone aside like they were in the first half of the season. They were being handed the title around December and seemed to let up a bit.

Often happens in the Championship. It's a long old season down there.
