Onomah has now seen what it takes to make it. Not just Spurs that didn't give him playing time, Villa didn't start him every game. He needs to focus now and listen to Poch.

The thing with Kane is he always had a lethal shot and an excellent football brain but needed to really develop the physical side and Kane worked really hard to do that.

Josh has some strong points and he looks to have developed physically but not given the opportunities to develop in his favourite position for whatever reason.

Personally hope he stays and we somehow unlock his inner dembele as he has the raw ingredients.

Sorry but what is with the rewriting of history with Kane? Loads of people were not writing him off, at all. Kaz Hirai did, famously - and his quote was in a load of peoples’ sigs, which shows how ridiculous everybody thought his writing Kane off was

Nobody quite knew how good he’d become, but I never ever heard a single person say we should get rid of him.

Would like to see him loaned to Brighton. Chris Hughton knows about playing good football.

Grelish falls to the ground so much you wonder.

I just hope Pochettinho can get Onomah to for fill he's potential. Undoubtedly he'd of learnt a lot being involved in a promotion bid.

Maybe I have selective memory but I recall a fair number of people saying he'd never make it and wasn't a realistic option for the future, especially when he was out on loan. They usually beat him with the same stick opposition fans use: "doesn't have the look of a top player", "isn't especially fast, strong etc". The worst was when someone said he had a weak shot. Who on earth was that guy watching?

Exclusive: Josh Onomah on his Spurs future, Poch's new deal and what he learned at Aston Villa

.....

He believes he will return to Spurs a better player and credited Villa boss Steve Bruce with what he's learned this season.

"I would say it's mainly been a maturity thing and the physical side of things that I've added to my game," he said.

"The Championship is a physical league and it's all about playing men's football. I think I've learned that side of my game and I want to thank Steve Bruce for helping me.

"He's helped me on and off the pitch, he tells me where I've gone wrong and where I need to improve. That's what you need from a manager.

"He's an experienced man, as a manager and a player. For him to give me information you know what he's saying and you just have to take it on board, just learn from him as much as possible."

Tottenham have kept a close eye on Onomah with manager Mauricio Pochettino getting fed regularly reports on the young midfielder.

"They've been keeping in touch. There's a guy who checks on all loan players," explained Onomah. "He goes to every game and checks up on you to make sure everything's good."

Last summer, the 21-year-old didn't have too much of a break, having won the U20 World Cup with Spurs team-mate Kyle Walker-Peters in Korea.

"I was just saying to my friends and family that this might be my only summer where I get a few weeks off," he admitted.

"I need to rest up and come back fully charged and ready for pre-season."

And what of that pre-season? In July, Onomah will return to a Tottenham squad he struggled to break into the season before last after a promising debut campaign.

With a number of the club's World Cup stars expected to miss the upcoming summer tour back in the USA, Onomah could get a chance to show Pochettino what he's learned.

"I just want to get back to Spurs and make the most of my time there and see if I can break through," he said.

"I need to take it step by step. I'm looking forward to the new stadium as well. It should be good. It's exciting times.

"They've done well securing that top four spot and playing in the Champions League. From the start of every season, we look to win trophies and hopefully we can do that next season."

Pochettino signed a new five-year deal with the club this week and Onomah believes it bodes well for the future.

"It's very important for the club," he said. "They've been going in the right direction in recent years and everyone believes in the gaffer. We've just got see what the future holds."

Considering he has always been better than Winks when they were playing together it's not really a bold prediction.

Can’t agree with that. Winks has stood out against the best sides in the world Onomah hasn’t !

What exactly are you disagreeing with?

Coming up through the different ages levels, Onomah was always the better player. Ergo it isn't much of a leap of faith to think he may be the better player. He just hasn't been given a chance at his position like Winks has.

He has not taken the chances he has been given. He has had the opportunity to show Poch he is worthy of playing more often and he hasn't played well enough to be given more game time. He has displayed no end product at PL level. Winks was given opportunities and took them so well he virtually became a regular prior to his injuries. You have to take your opportunities and Onomah hasn't.

Saying that Grealish spends a lot of time on the ground is one of the facts in the play off final another fact is that 70% of the fouls committed against Villa were made on Grealish and that is because he was targeted by Fulham players as the main danger to their aspirations.I find him a fantastic player and would love him at our club as there would be more chance to blossom as he would not be the main target and thus give him more freedom to release his talents

He needs to pull his socks up from his ankles. I'd ban the fucker for life for that. He can get a haircut too.

He was under Poch’s management for 2 years then loaned out. Doesn’t pose well for him after two years of coaching he wasn’t deemed ready to compete in our team.
One thing on Onomah is he was unplayable and the catalyst of the u21s winning the the championship last summer. He made everything tick and was brilliant. He was getting likened to a youthful Dembele due to how he glided by players. I don't understand how people can say anything regarding our players as the amount of stick as @Hercules said HK got was savage (not loads from our fans granted) Then the same with Poch for putting Dier in CM and he became our rock and made us solid again in the midfield.

Onomah wasn't guaranteed to start so he tried it elsewhere to get experience did it work? We will only see come the summer but the guy has huge potential.

Different types of players. Winks got his chance because we were so turgid in the midfield. He was a missing piece that helped link that turgidity of cm to the attack. He was excellent when fit and offered something the team lacked.

As much as I want young Onomah to succeed, as I do all players at spurs, I don't see what he can bring to the table that's particularly different. Which may explain his lack of first team opportunities, in comparison to Winks.

I'd sooner have seen Onomah get those opportunities over a certain blundering oaf in CM though. Off the bench etc. But that's a different debate.

Hope he continues his development and we see more of him.

Really hope Onomah stays with us and finally gets some game time in CM, even if it's predominantly domestic cups. As long as he gets to start those games and maybe get some mins off the bench in league games then I'll be happy.

I have very high hopes for him and have been impressed with his play for England more so than Villa. Barely seen him play for Villa though.

I didn't get to see the finals but he stood out to me in the play off semi finals against Middlesbrough. He was by far the best player on the pitch. Not only was he (seemingly) the most talented player on the pitch, he also seemed to be literally everywhere & was pivotal to everything Villa did. I couldn't help but think he's a Poch type of player.

That said, recent suggestions that Mourinho is interested in him.

If and its a big if, Onomah gets a run of games here at Spurs, and doesn't shine and disappoints, then that's his chance gone. He's 21 now and we're still talking about him being given a chance, which if deemed good enough would have come a lot earlier

Winks left him behind a couple of years ago and has progressed since, not sure Josh has advanced in that time.
