I'm glad JR thinks it's been 'an excellent season bearing in mind the difficulties' - backs up my feeling that it's been a good/very good season :)

Reflecting on last season, Juande Ramos insisted booking a place in European competition again was 'vital' for the club.

The memorable victory over Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final at Wembley secured our spot in the UEFA Cup for the third-successive season. "It’s essential for a club like Spurs to be in Europe - that was an important goal," the Head Coach told Spurs TV Online as he looked back on his highlights of the last campaign.
"It’s been an excellent season really bearing in mind the difficulties we faced when we arrived," added Juande, eluding to the fact that we were 18th when he joined us in late October and needing wins to progress beyond the group stage of the UEFA Cup.

"Firstly we’ve won a trophy, which is so important to Spurs and then to qualify for Europe was vital.
"The semi-final against Arsenal was very, very important because the team had gone for a long time without beating Arsenal, so to win a semi-final 5-1 caused tremendous happiness amongst the fans.
"To get to the Carling Cup Final and then fight back from a losing position against Chelsea had tremendous value for us

Spot On DC, it's too easy to belittle winning the CC, and feeling peed off about finishing so low in the league. I really do believe that JR will start getting it right next season. (Oh I fcuking hope so!!

It will mean so much in being able to attract decent players because, if we hadn't reached Europe this season, we probably would have lost some quality personnel but been unable to replace them as easily (of course, it may not matter when it comes to Berba).
While we have enjoyed the success in the league in recent years, to win a piece of silverware was also hugely welcome, particularly considering that, for a change, only one of the top four have claimed a trophy this season.

The pre-season will tell us how much work Ramos has done after the dissapoinint finish to last season. He has a fresh start with us, he has Europe, and he has the benefit of a window to bring in three or four players to balance our team and squad out.

Europe is incidental next season. We must challenge for Europe the following season via the league, not the Cup route.
