Thought he was right up there with Jenas & Berby for MOTM today.

He's playing back in his favourite position and i thought he had a stormer. If the Wigan defence were jewish babies' foreskins, then he cut through them like a crazed Rabbi. He's doing all the things he did when he first came to notice and his crosses are gradually getting better too. He took some good corners today so let's hope it continues. I know it was only Wigan, but Wigan sounds a bit like Wogan, and he's a legend.

Well played Aaron.

JJ was brilliant today too, but I just felt that Berbatov really orchastrated the game today.

Who knows, when I watch MOTM I may change my mind! I am one of the Jenas fans, so I liked seeing him show the haters what he can do

2 goals (especially the 1st 2) and an assist for a midfield player is exceptional and very rare that any central midfield player racks up those numbers in a game.

Therefore MOM for me was Jenas.

Something you don´t get on TV (I watched Football First) that you do get at the game is just how much tracking back and pressuring off the ball he did.

This was the best Lennon performance I have seen today - more for his off the ball work. If he could cross a bit better he´d be scary.

Man of the Match.

Lennon was probably better defensively than Chimbonda today on that right hand side. A very good performance.

Just had to listen to the radio commentary, but his tracking back and tackling was mentioned two or three times. I remember the home game against Bolton a couple of seasons ago when he hurtled back and whipped the ball off Nakata's toes when he was clear through on goal. It's an aspect of his game that's often overlooked.

I was there for that too! Unfortunately for Jol, he hadn´t been doing that in his final months. The question is, can he keep this level of endeavour up?

You make good points about his tracking back and work rate today. I can only assume that Ramos has said something because like you I thought it was amongst his best performances too for defensive/workrate reasons as well as offensive reasons.

If we are going to achieve anything players like Keane, berbatov, lennon must understand that they have to work their nuts off too and not rely on the others to do all the work and be content with supplying the odd fleeting bit of genius.

It's not overlooked he just didn't do it enough.

He has always done it as far as I was aware, i'd be inclined to agree with SS57.

In that case I refer you to the program notes of Jol v Blackburn at the end of last year when he said our attacking players have got to work harder when we don't have the ball.

From the bits I saw Lennon could easily have been MOTM. Berba did a few nice flicks and was class as always but I don't think he did anything special. He did what he needed to do but he didn't do something like Robbie who created a goal from nothing. I'm not saying he was bad or anything but he has the ability to create chances and didn't. I guess the best thing he did was bringing that ball down to set Lennon up

It's certainly something he needs to do more, but his ability to do it does get overlooked (by some). I watched that Bolton game in the pub with my old man, and when Lennon robbed Nakata he turned to me and said, 'Blanchflower couldn't have done it any better than that.'

Can't get too much higher praise than that.

To be honest SS, the work rate thing is something that the whole team needed to improve on. And today they did. It pleased me the most in a way that we earnt the right to play football today. Wigan are not as bad as there position but we out battled them today as well as outplayed them. It was always lacking under Jol. You may remember it was one of my criticisms of Jol.

I read a couple of interesting things in the program today. One thing was something that bgot said many times about Jol. In todays program notes Ramos said he noticed that when we went 1-0 v Blackburn we stopped playing and handed them initiative. Apart from a brif few minutes in the second half at no time did we do that today. Like the top 4 teams we just kept going. We defended much better as a team and that allowed us to carry on playing football. It was really fucking pleasing to watch.
