Some people are just desperate for a signing I think.
There is definitely an element of this creeping in. Happens every summer as people become desperate to get average players across the line. Does seem like a few in this thread have actively been following him though will be interesting to see what he does tonight.

I saw a colombian football expert somewhere say he wouldn't suit us under loch. I'll have a look for the tweet

Yep. I said it in the Plea thread. People just seem to want us to sign a player and don't seem to care who it is. Realistically we only need a couple of signings. At the moment I'd be more happy to get rid of some of the players we obviously don't need. We'll need the money from them anyway to buy players.

17 goals 22 assists in 175 games. What am I missing?

The fact that he was carrying an injury most of that time and many of those games were only a few minutes as sub. His record when fit is very different. This year for example he scored 15 goals in 26 matches before getting injured again.

Also who in this thread is backing Quintero just because they are desperate for a signing? There's me and @yanno who have obviously been watching him for some time and a couple of others who have made mild positive posts based on what they have seen in this WC. Suddenly somehow there seems to be a circle jerk of posters who have never watched him saying he isn't good enough .

@fatpiranha

It's clear that the people who are ascribing our motivation to being "desperate for a signing" have not properly read our posts.

We've simply pulled together the background on a player who would have been scouted when he was a star of the 2013 U-20 World Cup, was snapped up by Pescara and Porto (noted for their knowledge of South American talent), and has then had a succession of injuries and largely unsuccessful loan spells where his motivation was questioned.

However, Quintero showed coach Pekerman enough to get a recall to the Colombia squad as the creative understudy to James Rodriguez, and has started all three of their matches.

In two of those matches he started alongside James showing he must have impressed Pekerman in training. He's also starting ahead of Luis Muriel of Sevilla and Izquierdo, who showed he was PL quality at Brighton last year.

Any club signing Quintero will be taking a huge gamble given his failure to deliver on his "world class potential" as a young player.

But I would rather take a chance on a player with great technique and vision, who can see and play a killer pass, than another pacy heads down runner, which is what Plea seems to be.

Look at Quintero's touch, vision and delivery for Falcao's goal against Poland. It's top class.

I'm sure Poch will have asked Davinson about Quintero's performances in Colombia's training sessions, just as he'll have sought his observations on Barrios.

Is this a trick question . Quintero is basically a Colombian Eriksen with less stamina but a harder shot.

No it isn't. I know nothing about him. If we're in the market for an attacking mid, I would hope he could also play as a striker, as Martial can. I assumed Grealish is coming in as Eriksen cover.

Yup. Imagine Quintero coming off the bench with half an hour to play, alongside Eriksen, against all those Park The Bus teams.

I think it's highly unlikely we'll sign him. Especially if a bidding war starts, with claims that Real Madrid are interested. No club is going to risk big money on a player with his chequered history.

But I think it's more often players with vision, quick feet and creativity who unlock deep-lying bus parking defences, not players with great pace.

Yeah he'd be ideal against bus parkers and with the power in his shot would be a nightmare for any goalie having to deal with a deflection in a crowded penalty area.

I'm also skeptical that we will sign him and much as I love to watch him play i'm not even sure we should :cautious:. However, one thing he is not is a meh :meh: signing. He would either be brilliant or a total waste of money.

That’s a very simplified way of excusing years of poor play. I’ll remember that reasoning the next time you want one of our players sold. All you’ve done is oversimplify years and years of poor play to go for 4 games of play, not even all of which have been that brilliant. To me it’s like looking at a younger Ricardo Quaresma, someone else I wouldn’t want us to buy.

The fact is you’ve basically listed why we shouldn’t buy him. The guy is injury prone - incredibly so. Poch doesn’t have a magical fitness wand he can wave over players. In fact as things stand we have injured players like Winks and Wanyama who we have absolutely no idea if they’ll ever get back to their best again.

Talk about a straw man argument . Where in all of my posts in this thread have I even mentioned his last 4 games. Where are you even getting this from? I thought Quintero was an exciting talent when I watched him at the U20 World Cup and also in the last World Cup. I've not mentioned his performance at this WC even once, yet for some reason you keep going on about it.

And as for remembering this when I want one of our players to be sold well good luck finding those posts. They are pretty damn rare.I may have posted somewhere that I would like to see the back of Sissoko but who the fuck hasn't :ROFLMAO:. Apart from that you'll probably need to go back to Zokora to find a post like that from me.

I don't mind criticism or debate but at least criticise what I am actually posting and not what you wish I had posted :banghead:.

Sorry but you’re not the only one posting about wanting him.

Not everything is about you.

Yep .. most completed passes in the opponents half of anybody on the pitch in normal time and most goal attempts. Far from his best match but ... "gash"?

Not everything came off tonight but i liked his intent. Looks smooth technically. I wouldn't be against a low fee punt based on this game
