He's been interviewed just a few minutes ago in Radio MARCA.
He reckons that Tottenham has had good players in the past years but had lacked direction, and were not always faithful to their attacking phylosophy.
They asked him about the squad he has inherited. He declined to go into detail because "he has only been two days at the job". He said that his first job is to get the players confidence back, and once his style of play is being implemented he will decide who is good enough to play the style he wnats to play. They asked him what style he wants for his new team. He anwsered the same style he has always played: attacking football at pace.
About whether he'd buy Spanish players he stated that he is fond of good players regardless of where they come from.
He also said that he was happy to be given 4 years, so that he has time to implement his style.
On signings he said that he had an input of 25% with other three people making decissions, the director of football, the chairman and someone else I didn't get. He said that the club's structure was close to clubs in Spain than the typical English club.

On Comolly (Sp?) he jokingly said that he chose him so they had a good professional relation. :)

Forgot to say. He denied that he said that he wanted to buy Alves and Kanoute. Since he joined Spurs he hadn't talked to any journalist until the press conference of today.

Thanks for that, JR.

I like the attacking philosophy. And if he can manage the magic trick of getting us to play attractive attacking football and defending effectively at the same time, something no Spurs manager has ever succeeded in doing consistently, we're on to a winner.

His style of football, attacking at pace is great and the way to go if you want to be a success in the current game, look at Manusa and the goons it is that style, although each manager will have a variation it is the same theme, I can't wait.

This is what drives me mad about our current system. It should be totally down to the coach and Sporting director. It's exaclty the reason why I don't blame Comolli for not addressing some of the obvious problems with our squad. I'm certain if it were left down to him and the coach we'd have seen very different players arriving in the summer.

There are some horrible rumours about Board indifference over Petrov and mickey mouse offers to him before he went to City .

What this interview makes clear is that Levy HAS been interfering in transfers in the Jol years adding creedence to the claim that Jol's been shafted by not getting players he wanted . A cynic might say that Levy will ONLY buy the young players because their value will appreciate and make the club more valuable.

I don't think its a good idea to give a chairman this kind of power..

..so I agree with Joey

Why does it drive you mad Joey? Because there are two other people sitting there at the table saying 'Woah there Cowboy, you want Ronaldinho? Who the fuck do you think we are? Leeds?'

The other two are the money men, without them, there are no signings.

Quite. If he can get Levy to bend his 'Are you mad? £10m for a 28-year-old midfielder? Don't you realise we'll never get that money back?' philosophy it will be another huge plus.

I thought it was revealing that Jol said 'We thought about Chivu and Distin'. Was that him and Comolli? If so, did Levy tell them to forget it?

Well ignoring the ridiculous over - exaggeration, yes thats pretty much it.

We've missed out on players who would have improved our side no end because of wage constraints and unwillingness to sign older players, presumably due to their sell-on value.

And as a result, our books look a lot healthier than any other club's outside the top 4!

We have a new Stadium to fund, but nobody gives a shit about that do they?

Outside the top four?

That's certainly to be greatly commended, but no-one's saying we should go raving mad. Do you think our defensive record this season would have been quite so bad if we'd signed Chivu or Distin, and a better class of DM? What would another 10-12 points have been worth?

Do you really think with the sell out crowds we have and the season ticket waiting list we are going to have problems securing funding for a new stadium?

Also have you considered the changes in the football environment since ENIC took over, to now. Have you thought about why ENIC bought into Spurs, where they saw potential for growth and have indeed there been any (pretty signficant) changes in the world of Prem football over the last 5 years that may have altered their opinions and strategy. It seems to me certain people are still in favour of the way Enic run the club, based on the fact their strategy was incredibly beneficial to us, up until about a year ago (though at the time I don't rememebr many people commenting on what a good job Enic had done). Yet no one seems to have bothered to get a calculator out and do some very basic calulations and then have a brief look at the current football market and realise that ENICs and Tottenhams (the teams) best interests aren't as closely tied together as they were not so long ago.

I like it, cheers JR. Great addition to the community from what I have seen today.

When he says we have lacked direction, I think he means that none of the players seem to know what their role in the team is and as such we look very disjointed. Ramos seems to have very definate ideas in mind for his players and I would expect us to see lots of hussle and closing down in midfield, a high back line and lots of counter attacks at pace. We can do that with our players right from the very first match, because players like JJ and Zok have stamina to burn so if they are told that their first job is to close down everything and win the ball at all costs they will do it or they will find themselves on the bench. The defence can easily take a higher line and we have the players to attack quickly. When you add this to the supposed fitness work that is going to be implemented we may see results very quickly.

Becasue I thought the whole point of the Director of Football role was to be be the boards representative on the football side of things. I thought the Director of Football was meant to be incharge of the over all running of football side of the club, including transfers. Once the budget has beenset, I'd expect the Director of Football to spend it as he see's fit. It wasn't so long ago i saw a Panorama show about corruption in football and Frank Arnesen was filmed not only poaching players, but disscussing the financial package he was prepared to offer.

Joey. These days, they don't only weigh up the price of a player, availability, current ability, potential ability and potential sell on value they have to weigh up the potential marketing value a player could bring to the club: i.e Shirt Sales, Off the Pitch Reputation etc etc (think what David Beckham would bring to a club) That's just not Commoli's area of expertese.

Do you not understand how much money 1 million pounds is? Imagine it in your bank acount. It's not small change and sometimes, as fans, we think it is. More supporters should appreciate our board are VERY considerate when spending our Club's money.
