I think it's fine putting this in here. Justin Kluivert has said that we were in negotiations with Ajax last summer to include him in the Sanchez deal and he didn't even know until the last minute and didn't want to move. Apparently the deal proposed was a two-year loan back (I think it's a response with quotes from Overmars) worth €20m. I've copied the relevant bits.

Justin Kluivert (19) tells his story: 'I was not waiting for money at all'

Justin Kluivert (19) will not renew his contract with Ajax this summer. Too much has happened for that. Lack of trust. The reduced atmosphere in the selection. An attempt to sell him to Tottenham Hotspur without the knowledge. Moreover, Kluivert considers the future perspective uncertain.

Kluivert heard through Raiola that he was transferred in the beginning of the season in a kind of tying to Tottenham Hotspur, together with Davinson Sánchez. Sanchez for 45 million, Kluivert for 20. But he did not want to go to Tottenham. "I heard that at the last minute. That says nothing about Ajax, but about the people in the club. Somewhere it was laughing. You see how the football world works. If you get a little higher, it looks like a game. They do what they want. I now get that feeling again: they do what they want. '

He talks about the negotiations in the beginning of the season, although he was not personally present. "I had two years contract and thought: do it. My idea was to stay. But then it turns out that it is different. As a youth soccer player you have none of that. As a boy, everything is still fun. Have a nice football on Saturday. As soon as you get higher, it is often about everything but football, but about peripheral issues. '

WRITTEN REACTION AJAX:

Ajax's written response to Ajax's director of players 'policy on the attempted sale of Justin Kluivert to Tottenham Hotspur:' In the conversations with Spurs about Sánchez there was a later discussion about Justin. Spurs's proposal was that he would then play in Amsterdam for another two years and that he would then go to Spurs. We did not go further on that, because we wanted to renew the contract with Justin. Just like we want to. "

Doesn't sound like he would move to us now out of principal. Whether that is ours or Ajax's fault, who knows

Confirm what I said last year, and beginning of this. I actually believe he is decent, but not that extra special

If he didn't have that last name don't think there would be as much talk on this guy. Don't see him making a name for himself on this squad at all.

Just so I am clear - we are posting transfer rumours of players who don't want to come to Spurs?
Yeah I wasn't sure whether to put it in here - but I guess we might still be interested? He doesn't really seem to be pissed of at us tbf.

Neres looks the more accomplished winger at Ajax, albeit a few years older than Kluivert.

If we could sign one player from their squad this summer I’d go for De Jong, even above De Ligt. Looks Barca bound though.

I'm a greedy fecker... I'd like both.

De Ligt and De Jong

Even if this deal doesn’t have substance now. Still appreciate the post. Goes to show exactly the kind of relationship we have with Ajax.

Was his old man even that good? Genuine question - I only really remember him from his time at Newcastle when I don’t really recall him being all that. I know he was older at that stage and he had a big reputation.

Patrick was pretty incredible. The silkiest touch I've ever seen on a big man. Deadly finisher. Fantastic athlete. Completely different player.
