Juventus have moved for Tottenham fullback Pascal Chimbonda.

Juve coach Didier Deschamps has told his board he wants the new France international ahead of Ajax's Bosman prospect Zdenek Grygera.

The fallen Turin giants had a delegation in London over the weekend, fueling talk of an approach to Spurs about Chimbonda's availability.

Judging by Buffon's statements last week about them needing to 'show some ambition in the transfer market if he is to stay beyond this season'.... They've got to make some 'noise' to hold what they have. Heinze yesterday, Chimbonda today, Henry tomorrow....blah.

OK then, say I'm Pascal Chimbonda. I'm not young anymore and it's taken me until I'm 27 before I've achieved real success and recognition, thanks to Paul Jewell being able to spot a good 'un.

Despite that, or perhaps because of it, I was in such a hurry to play at the top level that I bunged in a transfer request immediately the season was over and then spent the whole Summer engineering a move to a bigger club that could offer me immediate European football and an improving squad.

So what's next? I know, I'll move to a club that has been banned from European football, fined to within an inch of its eyeballs, disgraced and relegated, so it can't possibly qualify for Europe next year either (unless, of course, it wins a cup).

No, perhaps that's not such a good career move after all...

Absolutely ridiculous and besides it can't happen for the same reason Shevchenko can't leave <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Chelsea</st1:place></st1:City>. FIFA rules/regulations won't allow a player to be on the books of more than two clubs in a season and as Chimbonda was on <st1:place w:st="on">Wigan</st1:place>'s books at the start of this season it's a no-no.

A loan is always a possibility but please, when has tribal football every broke a story with any substance? <o:p></o:p>:duh:

still, I bet juve win a cup before we do...

That's not correct. The correct FIFA rules (Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players, article 5.3) state the following:

Players may be registered for a maximum of three clubs during the period from 1 July until 30 June of the following year. During this period, the player is only eligible to play in Official Matches for two clubs.

So, there's no difference between loan moves and normal transfers, it's about the registration of players and also loan players obviously have to be registered. Also, Shevchenko could move and be eligible to play for his new club, because he didn't play for Milan after 1 July. You're right about the fact that Chimbonda wouldn't be eligible to play for another club, because he played 1 match with Wigan early in the season. The same goes for the Argentinos Spammers.

    Yea, and I'm Sean Connery...

This must IMO be THE most ridiculous rumour of this window, and that's saying a helluva lot.

Edit: Hmm, forgot the "Milkybar Kid" for a split sec there...

Some of you people are idiots, Juventus has already paid the high price for their involvement in the scandal that was ran by the previous board of directors. This is a new Juve, and face it, they can still attract more and better players than Spurs even if next season Juve won't play a part in Europe. BTW, Chimbonda is 27, but in Serie A teams, players can still prove useful and throw in great performances even at an advanced age. And trust me, by the time he's 30, he would be fighting for winning Serie A or the CL if he's good enough for Juve.

But I wouldn't want Chimbonda to leave Spurs though

I have to say a couple of things:

    1) This will not happen, at least during this transfer window, because Chimbonda wouldn't be eligible to play for them before 30 June 2007.

    2) A move from Tottenham to Juventus can be considered a move forward, even if Juve are in Serie B for this season. They will be promoted and next year they will again be serious contenders for the Scudetto. We, on the other hand, will not win the Premiership in the foreseeable future. That's sad, but that's a reality.

In terms of stature, Juve are one of the top 5 clubs in the world. My top 5 would be Real, Barca, Man U, Milan and Juve.

I love Spurs from all my heart, but let's not kid ourselves: they have won the Italian championship 27 times, we have won 2 English championships. They have reached the European Cup final 7 times, winning 2. We have got to the semis once.

Let's face it, they're in a different class.

surely chimbonda wouldnt go if this shite was true.

has anything ever been true from tribalfootball??

Spot on , there is none better in the Prem , same sort of class as King .

Got to hand it to Juve for going for gold though , guess they will have to settle for Neville .
