We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Portsmouth for the transfer of Younes Kaboul to the Club.

The French centre-back will experience his second spell at the Club having left White Hart Lane in August, 2008 for Portsmouth, where he made 50 appearances, scoring five goals.

The 24-year-old played 29 games and scored four goals during his previous time at the Club, having originally joined us from Auxerre in July, 2007.

does this signing mean either king or woodgate will be moved on in the summer. personally i think we were mad to sell in the first place and am glad he is back. the reported £11m fee is a bit much though

Won't be that much as they still owed us some money from the initial transfer to Pompey, plus the reported sell on fee we had which will knock more money off.

I'd be surprised if we paid more for him than we sold him for, infact its probably less, thats the Levy way to do business!

gonna have to trust harry on this one. 11 mil is alot of money. Ps of the subject with Pedro Mendes goin to sporting lisbon today,i was hoping we may still may be goin for Miguel Veloso.

I dont want to be negative but I cannot believe we have bought Kaboul back. I thought we did well shifting him on the first time round.

Welcome back Younes, here's hoping you go on to create a formidable relationship with Daws and Bassong for years to come.

I thought that as well. But I've seen barely any of him since he left. But on the plus side, Dawson is a much more experienced, accomplished defender now and Kaboul has more Premiership experience, so hopefully they'd fare much better than the last few times they partnered at the back.

kaboul is definately a better player now than he was 1st time around. understands the premier league and is a strong, skillful defender.

I hope that Levy is keeping the finances on track - i'm sure he is as he has worked for a long time on the business model at WHL.

with King and Woodgate unavailable so often we have another player for the positions who is also a threat in the other teams box.

Hope he can keep his temprement - few suspensions at Pompey this year

Our squad is way too big. What happened to selling before be buy?

Kaboul did well for pompey, and we need cover for CB.hope he does well for us because he didn't get much chances under Ramos.

I do not understand it, why are resigning all the Comolli's signings? There must be something wrong.

good signing, i cant see why we let him go the first time...future french center back before too long

can't we just merge with Portsmouth and use their team to play our reserves? I mean, we're basically bankrolling them and have been for the past year or so.

the Redknapp old boy network is still going strong...

He has a better compass, at least he doesnt seem to wander as much... we can say his positioning has improved.

Still makes mistakes, ive seen a few at Portsmouth... potential has always been there - if its 5mill it a good deal.

Hope Redknapp isnt trying to make some cash to pay that tax bill

I think sell-on value is part of the calculus here. It's a bit cynical -treating players like cattle - but I think we've got a so-called 10 million rated defender for half that and Pompey owed us money on him anyway. We have extra cover this year and I'm sure we'd be willing to move him on if a big bid came in for him in the summer. Having said that, if he's a better defender now than his last spell with us, he's very welcome. Maybe he can help create a threat for our hapless corners too.

Well were suppose to welcome ANY player that joins spurs no matter what there credentials. So Welcome to Spurs YK, I just hope you know what your doing harry, because our team is starting to struggle of late.

Much as I think Kaboul has great potential, I think the main reason behind this transfer is to guard against Portsmouth going bust owing us £5m for Kaboul. Instead of the money, we've had Kaboul back at a time when we can certainly use another decent central defender, thus covering the situation financially and exploiting Portsmouth's weakness, because Kaboul's market value is plainly well in excess of £5m.

That puts us in a win/win situation: if YK plays well, we have an excellent defender with years of improvement ahead of him for a very low price; if he doesn't, we can still get our money back and we've secured the risk that we might have to write off the debt from Portsmouth.

From the two occasions I've seen him play this season, he looks like a defender who has developed considerably since we sold him. He always had the tools - he just needed the nous.

It's also worth noting that we sold him for a considerably higher price than we have bought him back. So next time we have another one of those irrational "Levy wasting money" threads, here's yet another counter-example.
