of all the things that happened last night. Ramos's swift sub and reorganisation of the team in the second half was the most impressive. Other than that i don't think you can take anything significant from the game.

I don't think I could have put it any better myself

Kaboul at times looks worryingly out of his depth for £8m (I think that’s what we paid for him), I hope we can get a good solid experienced central defender in come January; someone like Melberg at Villa would be top of my list (rumours are he wants away from there anyway).

I never mentioned this at the time, but in the notes to the financial statements that we put out a few weeks back it was revealed that we spent 14m quid on Kaboul and the Prince of Bel Air.......thats 14m. Lets hope it was supposed to have been a long term investment because thats what it looks like at the moment.

I always assumed that it was.

Well they are both under 21 internationals so you would assume so?!

A clean sheet against any team is always good (for us), although we rode our luck a little in that respect.

It was strange to say the least that Ramos started without any defenders on the bench, had chimbonda got injured we would have been in massive trouble.

Luckily Ramos' gamble paid off, maybe he will be a lucky manager, here's hoping :)

We really do seem incredibly short of defenders at the moment - is there anyone that's fit and a good defender in the reserve/academy squads?

What about Mills?

As others have said, Kaboul has been thrown in at the deep end. I doubt very much if the short terms plan was for Kaboul to be a regular, once Ledders is back (if), it will be Daws and Ledders and Kaboul will take a back seat. He is a young lad, 2 months into playing in a new league, new way of playing.

Considering last night was his first real stinker, that it was against a team he could afford a stinker against and that it was the first game under a manager he is eager to impress, it's not really that big a news story

Semi-agree with this. I think he's been shaky all season. My mate and I have nicknamed him hollywood, though it may have to change to Diego. He seems to choose the completely wrong times to go forward, and then stays there. He isolates his CB partner and I generally shit myself every time I see him going on a Maradona run.

He will learn, I'm confidant of it. But at the moment, we can't afford to carry anyone while they learn.

Yes he scored a great goal at Villa, but if he'd done his job properly in the first place, would Villa even had scored 4?

I really like him, and you're right that he is thrown in at the deep end, but the team is not benefitting from him at the moment.

IMO he as never meant to be thrust straight into the 1s team and his inexperience shows but totally agree that he is one for the future, he played well early on in the season

I see the drop in Dawsons form to stem from the partnership with kaboul as he was immence all last season and must be nervous with an apprentice alongside him - this then has had an adverce affect on the team as a whole, especially Robbo.

Alongside Taarabt and KPJ I see Kaboul as maybe a player for next season/season after after all wengers kids have had time playing together in reserves/training as they sign at about 17/18 which hs alloweed them to be "groomed" to play a certain position in a set system

and we still have tallent like Pekhart, Rose and Dixon if he can ever stay fit to eventually break through

Like others have said I think Kaboul has been poor defensively for most of the season, certainly not his fiirst poor defensive display - him and Daws have been poor together the mjority of games they've played

Whoever bought Kaboul Boateng and Bent this summer, I guess it was a collective decision, have made some massive costly mistakes, which has effectively wrecked any chance of a top 5 finish - not just a top 4.

I don't blame the players, it's the the 'collective' buyers.

I supported the Bent move, the other two I took on trust.

We just can't afford such poor judgment calls, let's hope Ramos can stop such a trio of mistakes again.

We were playing Blackpool.. we should have been able to get away with 3 at the back really!

DC Boy, You supported the darren bent move when we had 4 stikers, 3 of which were fireing on all cylinders. Yet kaboul (whom i think has saved us durign this injury crisis) and boateng who hasn't even played that poorly and is still very young, both in there first season playing english football are poor buys? I agree they were over priced but to be honest, 16m for a player whos shit is more than over priced. Bent was simply a shining light in a shit team... ala routledge him and johnson looked good because they were surrounded by tosh.

I do not necessarily agree that Kaboul was bought as one for the future. Partly because of the pricetag, but also because Martin Jol persevered with the Dawson-Kaboul partnership even for games where Rocha or Gardner were available. Whether this was entirely his decision, or whether it was part of the politics surrounding team selection that Mido referred to I am unsure.

I was sitting in the upper west stand, I could see him directly as he left the pitch.
He didnt look happy to be subbed (I would be concerned if he had), but I wouldnt say he had a hissy fit.

He touched hands etc with Tainio, moved straight to the bench and sat down (no eye contact with Ramos.) So im sure he was frustrated at being subbed, probally mostly because he was aware he failed to impress on his first opportunity

The guys on Football fancast were speaking of Ramos' Three Tactical changes per game. It seemed that he did work towards this with at least the sub of Kaboul. Good sign.

yep Matt - I supported the Bent move because Keane and Defoe don't work together so were relying on Berbs, which was not a good idea. Remember how we fell apart in key games last year when Berbs got injured?

No way has Kaboul saved us - him and Dawson have been poor to say the least - as for Boateng - as you say he's hardly played - I repeat I'm not blaming them - but they are poor buys for us in our situation, we needed experienced ready to play players - we chose them, it was a massive mistake by whoever made it.

Last weekend the defence was all Dawsons fault when he was dropped, now it's all Kaboul because he got subbed. Both have been playing as bad as each other. Both need a lot of work on the training ground. I was impressed with Ramos' guts to make that change, though I don't think it was a hissy fit, Kaboul was just surprised, everyone was expecting Malbranque's number to come up.

I was disappointed that we didn't see Prince-Boateng though, thought he should have come on for Jenas who I thought was a passenger for the whole game.

I know we have it back keeper wise..but none what so ever!

That might be a bit risky! I think i would rather stick with a keeper and 10 out feild players seen its been said in the other thread
