Levy was over the moon when Jamie Carragher retired and he didn't have to pay him that goal bonus any more!

It's one hundred and ten thousand pounds. Per week. Nearly half a million every month. Football is well and truly lost if that isn't enough, regardless of what the likes of City and United are offering.

There’s always a bigger fish...

Even if we were paying him £150k, Utd / City would still be offering £250k or Madrid / Barca / PSG would be offering €350k.

Extortionate wages don’t stop the rumours about Coutinho going to Barca, Neymar already moving to PSG or Costa kicking up a fuss at Chelsea trying to force a move.

Kane has something more than wages at Spurs, he has a great environment built around him where he’s the main man and has proven that he can break records and make history with us

Don't often get angry about bullshit stuff about spurs in the press but I'm absolutely seething about Paul Wilson's article about Kane in the Guardian today, especially as it appears on a normally sensible news platform.
Apparently Kane's move in the summer is pretty much regarded by everyone as a certainty (Wilson says it would be a 'surprise' if he was still with us in a year's time) and the only question is whether he's going to Real or if one of the 'big' English clubs can steal a march on the Spanish giants and make us an offer we can't refuse.
I mean...FFS...how many times does Kane have to say he's not going anywhere before these twats believe it? Of course, he does mention Kane's previous statements before dismissing then with the sage comment ' that's not the way that football generally works'.
Grrr.

Besides the fact that all these "big" clubs finished below us last year and the year before....

At one of those evenings with past players I went to recently, Graham Roberts said that Harry had a basic of £110k but got £10k win bonus and another £10k a goal, so he's doing pretty well lately!

thats still lower then some of the journeymen on that wage list

So that's why he's so trigger happy.

@fullback03 on Twitter....not sure how reliable he is but he posted this

@vkon1 The bonuses at Spurs are incentive based and colossal.
The Balon D’Or nomination, Champions League qualification & being winner of the Golden Boot allegedly meant Kane’s wages crept above £300,000 a week last season. Alli also averaged out over £120,000 with his add-ons.

I love this line of argument. Like Levy’s the only chairman to discover performance related bonuses. They’ve been in champ man for 15 years, so I think they’re probably fairly well established at most clubs

The idea that somehow we pay such huge bonuses that when considered match other clubs’ bigger salaries is curiously illogical. Other top clubs presumably do bonuses too, and you would guess bigger than ours, so what are their players on when you factor in all the add ons? No one seems to discuss that.

Do we really believe no one else gives their strikers goal bonuses? And cup winning bonuses? If not, it’s entitely irrelevant, as if Kane’s 110k is actually 300k with bonuses, : love to see Aguero’s or Salah’s take home

Coasting you say.

I'd take their feckin gloves off for a start. Run you horrible little srcotums, run, i feckin tell ya, you'll soon warm up.

None of this chuckle brothers football either. To me, to you, to me, to you. Feck off, I'll hack yer feckin leg off at the shoulder.

As you can see, It's all about throwing a friendly arm around the players to get them playing for you.

Absolutely. Clearly other clubs are well on board the bonus train too, even if our guaranteed vs bonuses ratio might have a higher percentage than some other clubs.

Obviously none of us know specifics, but it's an unarguable truism that - on average - we pay our players less in total than the clubs we consider rivals, with the guaranteed wage vs bonuses ratio being incidental to the argument. The proof is in the staff remuneration disclosure notes in the published accounts of the PL clubs: we pay less than the clubs we want to compete with whichever way you slice it. But we're all pretty much aware of that anyway, regardless of the odd silly article.

Your last paragraph reminded me of when John Arne Riise's pay slip ended up in the newspapers a good few years ago. It detailed his bonuses.

Plus it confirms Liverpool have always paid averagish players silly wages.

so two points to make here.

Firstly for some players (though not all), once you reach a certain level in wages, it enough and additional wages are no longer a huge motivation. Kane seems like one of those players. Once you're earning £10m pa doubling your wages doesn't seem that important anymore......because you're content and other things are of greater value to you.....there's nothing you would like to buy/own that you can't afford right now. Its not the same as when you're on £250k a year and someone offers to double it.

Secondly, we are spending close to £1 BILLION on a new stadium - anyone who thinks Levy will sell our main man and massive draw in the naming rights given his profile, so that we move into that new stadium, all depressed and feeling down is quite spectacularly stupid. So the author of that article is quite simply a bit of thickie.

I think Kane may one day leave us of course.......but i won't lose a second sleep worrying about it this summer.

Think it was meant to be £20k. Then add appearance bonus. Win bonus. Bonuses for getting into the cl (under harry our wages went from around £60m to £90m when we qualified).

If there is embarrassment it is that clubs pay some ludicrous wages without players actually having to do much.
I guess the point is there are some players who will get their heads turned by these kind of reports ( Walker,Rose) and hopefully some who won’t ( Kane, Alli, Eriksen,)
