We are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Ben Alnwick from Sunderland.

Marton Fulop moves in the opposite direction.

The now 20-year-old broke onto the Stadium of Light scene during Sunderland's Championship winning campaign of 2004-05 before making seven Premiership appearances the following season - including an outing at White Hart Lane. He made a total of 22 first team appearances for the Black Cats.

Ben has been capped by England at Under-17, U18, and U19 level, receiving his first call-up to the Under-21 squad ahead of the August qualifier against Moldova.

Marton joined us from MTK Hungaria in May 2004 and subsequently enjoyed spells at Chesterfield and Coventry. The Hungarian international headed off to the Stadium of Light in November and his move now becomes a permanent one.

Sporting Director Damien Comolli said: “We are very pleased to bring another young and talented prospect to the Club. Ben may only be 20 years old but he has significant international and Premiership experience. Ben showed great motivation and desire to join us and I know he is excited to be part of our future.”

So the rumours were true. He sounds good, although Fulop was pretty sound as well.
  2. paulspursman
he played last season in the premier league and was at times one of their only decent performers

he saved keanes penalty at the lane last season
  3. Byron
sounds like a good keeper. now hes in the bright lights of the city i just hope he can keep his cock in his trousers when the cameramen are around.
  4. DCSPUR
also shows Comolli will try and sign both English and foreign young players
  5. Inter_mi_lane
twenty quid says he'll be out on loan before thanksgiving
  6. MidnightCaller
I think he will benefit, with the training from Pat Jennings Spurs Goalkeeper coach and Paul Robinson Englands no 1

sky sports were stating that we had also bought sunderand forward liam lawrence for £500k.

    Any confirmation?
    and WHY??
  8. adeleander

  9. Sanj
    Thanks adeleander.
I swear i saw spurs on SSN and was major shocked.

But alls good - not another rasiak like signing upfront.
  10. Spinders
I saw that too. That was just a typo from a monkey at skysports.
  11. TheBaker

    Loves a roasting session!
  15. StokeSpur
Correct, Liam Lawrence has gone to Stoke.

I dont think Ben Alnwick will ever push robo for a 1st team place he's back up for injury at most, i think Robo needs some serious competition, he's been a bit sloppy of late, nowt too drastic but just dosnt seem like the Robo of last season. I know Robo is a pro and does his training seriously etc but in any game u play if you know yr 1st choise then complacancy can set in.

The reason for signing Alnwick isn't that he should be considered as immediate competition for Robinson, it's that Cerny is getting older and probably won't stay forever. A Premiership club needs 3 decent quality goalkeepers, as Chelski have found this season - who thought Hilario would play 10+ matches?

Alnwick is a good investment because he will either improve and create healthy competition, improve and leave and make us a bloody great profit or not improve and remain a useful backup.

That was the role Fulop was intended for, but he's got different ideas about his own progression, possibly because he's working outside his native country.

Oscar Jansson from Karlsund HFK for (Undisclosed)

saw this on the transfer news...we signed him on the 1st of dec. anyone got any news about him?
  18. Makkaveli101
Not too impressed with this signing. Robinson is our no.1 so he won't get many games anyway, and I know people that have met him and I've heard nothing but bad things. I will give him a chance, but from I can gather he's not fit to wear the shirt.
  19. Darron
His is only 15 years old but sounds like a good one for the future. He is regarded as one of the most promising keepers in Scandinavia.

    He said...

"I've been for a medical," confirmed Jansson to Nerikes Allehanda. "I will be part of their Under-18 squad, just below their reserves. "As I understand it I will be one of three keepers in the squad."

This was on sky sports in late September.
