We weren't willing to be a stepping stone for him with a release clause so he's gone somewhere whose model is exactly that so best of luck to him

I don't care if we are a stepping stone to Madrid Juve Bayern Barca etc just as long as they are amazing while they are with us and we get a decent payoff at the end. We have to acknowledge we are not the submiti in football terms.

That seems logical.

IIRC there was itk a few weeks ago that we weren't goign to accept release clauses when signing players and many at the time thought it was in relation to this fella.

so because you heard that we might be the stepping stone for him so we didn't go for him...nothing is guaranteed...people change their mind all the time under any circumstances...keita only wanted juventus but look at where is he now...i don't believe that alli will stay for very long...so are we the stopping stone for him?

unless if we are the best team in the world and we are superior than real madrid, barca, bayern, juventus, psg...otherwise, a lot of young players want to play for them...that's a fact...can't change that now...so we refuse to sign young players because we don't want the players to join those teams in the near future?

Not the same thing tho is it? Having to agree on a fixed price exit in 2018/2019 if Juve come calling is very diffrent to having say Dele leave on an open market where several of the moneyclubs would try to move mountains to secure him.
