Kevin Stewart has joined League One side Crewe Alexandra on loan for the rest of the season.

Source: Official Site

The full-back, who can operate on either side of the defence, has started all eight of our games in the NextGen Series, as well as captaining the side, while he has also appeared in 14 of our Barclays Under-21 Premier League games this season and scored once.

Although labelled as a full back by OS, most of his appearances in u 18's and u19 NextGen have been at CB, where imo he is better anyway. Although right footed his other position (maybe 20% of the time) has been as LB where he has been decent but can be suspect against good opposition.

Played well in Nextgen last season and in the first half of the season but has put in a couple of less good performances in the last few months at u21 level..

Its a good loan at a club which has produced some good youth of its own over the last 20 odd years. Hopefully Stewart will get a few games to set him up for a decent loan next season or to come back more experienced and confident at playing for u21's next season.

On The Coach With The Squad! #CAFC

Good to see he's being involved in the match day squad the day after his loan started, probably be on the bench unless they have an injury list I imagine

Stewart played for Crewe against Sheffield United wioth the following comments from Crewe supporters on a MOTM thread :

'Let's also not forget Stewart who made an amazing tackle and looked so much better than he has before'

'Agree Stewart had a good game'

'Stewart got better and better as the game wore on, including an excellant second half and could be one of those additional squad members SD is talking about'.

That was his 4th startr for Crewe in League 1 - job done in tertms of getting him a feel for playing adult football. However it maybe his last as Crewe put out an all Academy trained side in their last game of the season (I think a first in English football although I could be wrong) :

I dont think it is a first a couple years back a league 2 iirc put out a full academy side out(U16 I think) and got murdered but they scored a couple of goals so all good in the end(y)

Ah cheers, thanks. I actually meant a full aged side side who had all come through the Academy, even though they might nowe be (say) 26, but it sounds like it will be a rarity rather than a first !
