With no other left sided CB to compare, it's pretty obvious that Vertonghen will be the best this season. He will similarly be the worst, tallest, shortest or any other adjective you care to use. Alderweireld is a much better defender in any case. Compare Vertonghen to Wimmer last season and you'll see that Wimmer stood in extremely well and, IMO, our defending suffered when Vertonghen came back in.

Last seasom our defending didn't suffer because Vertonghen came back in, thought that was more to do with Dembele and Alli getting themselves banned and the team losing focus, also Wimmer was great last season you are right but Vertonghen is a leader on the pitch (Poch has said as much) and we play better with him and he's stepped up this season in Toby's absence remarkably.
