    INJURY "NEWS"

LEDLEY KING is playing through the pain barrier to ease Tottenham's injury crisis - even though he needs an operation that may rule him out for weeks.

    Source: The Mirror

The England defender is already struggling with a persistent knee injury, but more worrying for King is a hip problem, which the England medical staff believe he needs surgery on to safeguard his career in the long term. Spurs captain King, 26, has been plagued by injuries and missed the World Cup after breaking his foot at the end of last season.

But he is bravely battling on even though Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen picked up on his performance against Arsenal last week when he struggled in the 3-0 defeat.

However, the secret reason behind King's form is that he is playing with pain and is desperately trying to carry on for as long as possible before he is forced to have surgery to ensure Spurs enjoy success this season in the Premiership and UEFA Cup.

There have been rumours about Ledley carrying an injury for some time. Certainly there have been games this season when he hasn't been at his best and a hip injury would explain it. However, this could be the Mirror just picking up on the rumour.

If we can sign Curtis Davies from WBA (6million orso) in january I think he can fill King's shoes while he has the operation he needs. Then when King comes back we have 3 class centre backs competing for places.
  2. bigspurs
If it is that bad he wouldn't be playing, surely?

I f*cking hate 'Red top' papers. They always go too far with their half wit, crappy stories.

I am sure he would taking a rest if gardner or davenport weren't injured too.

When the inevitable happens and he breaks down - there will be a A LOT of responsibility on Dawson shoulders
  4. Brettles
I love ledly king and i think he is invaluble to the team, however he is far to prone to injury isnt he :/

got some inside knowledge from a very good source that davies deal is done and hell join in the summer and that king will then have hes op on his knee not his hip as reported.also agree with the above post dawson will have alot on his shoulder but reckon his broad enough with teh pace of davies should be a good partnership.
p.s.ben arfa could still be on his way even though he signed a new contract as his first team appearances have been limited.

Dunno about the Davies story. Centre backs aren't as interchangeable as strikers or midfielders. You play your best two whenever they're available. Would Ledley, Daws or Davies be happy to warm the bench? Davenport / Gardner aren't quite in that league yet, but Davies would think twice about becoming third choice.

i would try and sort it out sooner than later as it could get lot worse

unfortunately we only have davenport and gardner in the squad who can replace him and both arent that convincing

if we get a very good centre back in january then maybe he could have his surgery and then come back in the last couple of weeks

agree arnoldtoo but my source told me hes had a bust up with mowbray only signed a contract extension because of robson and is homesick beaing a london boy.

Distin would get my vote... experience, pace, strength, good on the ball, scores from set pieces, and contract is expiring so would be cheap!

Also Gardner seems to have been injured like forever

Why would Davies join us to be third choice?, King would be a massive loss but these rumours have been going round since the end of last season, lets hope they are false.

I think we need a top class defender in the Jan Sales.

Curtus Davies wud be excellent... Distin too.

King's place is untouchable... but Dawsons is not.

If what we are currently watching is our captain playing through the pain then when he is recoverd completely he is going to be the best player the world has ever seen...I mean he is still playing incredible controlled football, making talented strikers look very much second best, with only the occasional error that every player can make. And BMJ and his staff are not stupid - they will know what is going to cause him permanent harm and when to draw the line.

We do need a really strong replacement, whether it be Curtis Davies, Distin, Mikel Richards or Woodgate. We need a player who is more assured than Gardner and Davenport and who can come straight in and take the game by the scruff of the neck with confidence. I personally think Davies and Woodgate are the best targets. Davies would know he's got a challenge on his hands but with King regularly struggling with injuries he would get good runs in the team, then he could compete with the two for a place if he really is that good. Depends how much of a gooner he is though too. Woodgate I believe is still a Madrid player on loan at Middlesborough, I don't think he'd cost that much and could see him liking the prospect of joining us and linking up with Robbo as well as joining forces with King and Dawson. For me he would be the best choice if we could get him. 4 Centre backs, King, Dawson, Woodgate and Davenport.

    :bang:

We have a medical team who are paid to look after our players - IF it were as bad as what the MIRROR (ffs) are making out -iut wouldnt be up to Ledley decide if he plays or not -the situation would be taken out of his hands as at the end of the day he is owned by the club and is an asset worth in the region of 20 million therefore we wouldnt risk that as it wouldnt be right for the player or the club.

Plenty of players play on till end of season when they need an op and have it then -which id imagine ledley will do -and unless ive missed something his form has been top class bar the odd game where SPURS as a team have been shit so

Once again I find myself in agreement with gump - the world is going mad. If Ledley had an injury that was serious enough to be considered career-ending there isn't a chance in hell he'd be playing, way too much money at stake - quite apart from the ethical issues for the medical team, who could find themselves in very dangerous territory if they knowingly let a player play on with such a serious threat to his livelihood and longer-term future. He may well have an injury that allows him to play on unless it deteriorates further, such as a small meniscal tear, a hernia or a labral tear in the hip, that happens all the time, but I think the Mirror has made a small story in to a big one to help sales.

Thats because if you agree with me it means you are right:wink:
