I really believe that Jurgen is indeed a true visionary and someone who will be successful wherever he goes.He has always been a very, very intelligent player,he is a Spurs legend and he turned a German team of no-hopers into a lean mean lightening quick machine!
I really, really like Martin Jol but this guy is just different class.
If Martin does decide to leave because the board have treated him badly then there is, in my opinion, only one man for the job, forget Ramos,Mourinho,Hughes,Capello or Lippi, just get Jurgen Klinsmann no matter what it takes.
He will build a Spurs team that will reach heights that we have only dreamed about!
It would probably mean the end for all the coaches we have at all levels and the end for Comolli as well but if Levy really wants Champions League football,be better than Arsenal and build the finest stadium in Europe. He needs to be ruthless and believe in the vision of Klinsmann!

I certainly don't think he's all bad, even (or especially) for a Frog who also happens to be an ex-Gooner. I don't expect him and Jol to see completely eye-to-eye on every signing, and they have to work within the constraints of a transfer policy imposed by Levy. That says that we don't buy players of 27-28, who will demand big wages, because although they might be the players we need now if we want to make an immediate challenge for a CL place signing them will mean writing off £20m+ because they will have no sell-on value.

As has been said umpteen times before, this policy is fine as long as we're happy with a top six or seven spot and maybe a cup over the next couple of seasons. It only fails when the goalposts get changed, as allegedly they were this summer. In fact, we don't know that they were; the nearest anyone whose word means anything has said on the subject is Jol, who said that we were meant to challenge for a top four spot. There's a big difference between that and being expected to achieve one. I refuse to believe that Levy is so stupid as to believe that he's bought us players that will enable us to make an immediate breakthrough into the big time.

All that said, there does seem to have been some friction between Jol and Comolli; we've had ITK hints to this effect for well over a year, and Jol's barbed quip about Monchi and a very telling pause when he was asked if he would be happier with full control over signings say a fair bit. And it's all very well saying he has the power of veto over signings, DFF, but he can only say, 'Nah, don't like him, he's shit' so often.

I don't think we have a hope of getting Mourinho or Klinsmann unless they have far more say than Jol has—not, 'I want a CM', but 'I want CM X, go get him.' To which you might add, 'And money is no object,' which I doubt would go down too well with Levy. The same goes for Lippi and Capello; they might have been used to working with a DOF, but that would be a DOF who will do their bidding.

Well, if he felt that way about that many of Comolli's suggestions, i'd worry for him and for us. It's not like Comolli had a role in Arsenal signing Eboue, Toure, Van Persie, Pires and Henry.

Yes, Jol can't veto everything that comes his way. But are you suggesting that a large proportion of targets that get to that stage are that bad? Even if he doesn't think they're up to much cop, he's the one that picks the squad. Going along with that theory and surmising that he does feel a player is being forced upon him, there's nothing to suggest he can't let him rot in the reserves if he's not hot on him. Boateng's been plodding along in the ressies and had a meaningless appearance against Famagusta. The new signings that are playing have warranted their place in the team on merit. He's even dropped Zokora to the bench for most games. Zokora apparently being a Comolli favourite (Comolli and Levy constituting the axis of evil). That doesn't suggest to me that Jol doesn't have full control over his team, having assumed that signings were forced onto him.

C'mon, we're regressing even further. Next i'll hear about how Comolli isn't scouting the right countries, completely cutting Jol out of the slagging-off equation.

I have nothing against Klinsmann and he made fantastic job as a head coach of the German national team. But he hasn't managed a football club ever and I hope that our next manager will be an experienced, proven quality. Not someone who just needs a stepping stone to his managerial career at the club level.

I can see this happening just because it's classic Spurs - a vintage example of letting heads rule hearts.

Remember Ossie and Hoddle? Great players and they both worked fantistically well as managers for us. Stands to reasons that if you're a top player for our club then you'll also be a first class manager.....doesn't it?

Yes, I remember. But don't remember if they were so fantastic...?!? ;-)

But the difference between them and Klinsmann is that they had already managed other clubs before coming to Spurs and were not so inexperienced at the club level as Jürgen is. Ossie as the manager of Swindon Town 1989-1991, Newcastle 1991-1992 and WBA 1992-1993. Hoddle as player manager/manager of Swindon Town 1991-1993, Chelsea 1993-1996 and Southampton 2000-2001 (England 1996-1999).

Klinsmann is not a good manager. Hes a German Stuart Pearce (good at motivating) and was saved his blushes by a fairly lucky run to the semis in the world cup.

Would be a step back IMO

No, I'm not. There are question marks over Zokora and BAE, but if the idea was to buy for the future then I don't think there can be too many complaints. But the point I was trying to make is that Mourinho and Klinsmann are almost certainly going to want a good deal more power than Jol has. That seems pretty evident from the Times interview with Klinsmann, and all the hoo-hah at Chelsea clearly kicked off with Mourinho's objecting to having DOFs of whom he dsapproved foisted upon him.

klinnsmann would never come unless we were in the champion league

can you please explain to me how Klinnsmann has a God given right to walk into a champions league team.

He was a fantastic player, no doubt about it - but then so was Brian Robson and glenn hoddle. He has no real management or coaching credientials so how could he simply walk into a champions league team?

Due to these reasons i would want him no where near spurs and i cant see any top CL teams going after him either.

necro thread from 2007 for Klinsmann to be spurs manager at 02:25AM.

If this isn't a good advert for the kids to stay off drugs, I don't know what is.
