Football is a short career, for those earning under 10k a week it could be harsh. In England, most League Two and Conference players will earn around 40-50k a year before tax i'd have thought. It's already a short career of 12 years ish and in Korea that would be cut short by a further 2.

5 years earning £10k a week is £2.6m. If you earn £30k a year it will take you 86 years to earn that. So no i don't feel that sorry for them.

Forget the 10k ffs, what about the Korea equivalent of the League Two and Conference players I mentioned, 40-50k a year? That's why I think they should allow them to delay it until they're in their early/mid thirties at least.

They will get paid when they do their national service and can have a carer in the military if they wish.

The rules are the same for everyone.

Fair enough, I just think the obvious difference for athletes is that age 28 is usually when they're in their prime and of course they have short careers. Therefore it affects them much more than your average worker.

There are military teams in the korean leagues that they can play for. Many do. I believe they can still play for the national team.

Many of our boxers started their carers while in the army. Nigel benn being one and i think honeyford.

Also we had national service in this country up to the 60's. Most of our double winning side would have done it.

Can then not just get a job once the service has finished or go back to play if still able too....

Keep in mind these are U23 squads - I doubt many here have any clue about their relative strengths and weaknesses...

It’s all pretty ridiculous really in terms of exemption. Surely being a top flight PL/CL player does more good for S Korea profile than winning Asian games. There’s absolutely no logic to it at all.
That is why Son is asking for a personal exception. Like the original writer said. This is all to make it equal for Baseball players, their number one sport. So the Asian games and olimpics are the only competitions that both have baseball. So yes no logic to this, remember we are talking Korea here, even south! That G Dragon guy is huge in KPop it would be like us sending harry Styles off for two years service. So song has no chance of an exception!

Has he asked for an exemption?

This was in the original post
“Another possible way, a more realistic way, is the Minister of Manpower Association, General Chansoo Ki (기찬수,
here's him doing an interview) making a possible exception for him, and delaying the draft for Son until he plays his prime years at Tottenham. I consider this outcome most likely.”

So he hasn't asked for an exemption.

It isn't to make it equal for baseball players. It's to make it equal for every other sport, not just baseball and football. That is why only Olympic type events grant exemptions as people can get gold in many different sports

who are the Kyrgyz Republic? Or is it a spelling error?
One of the ex-Soviet States who became independent in 91. Pretty small place squeezed between Kazakhstan and China, and nearly all mountains.
