Appreciate there's another thread but I can't remember a player sale that's divided our fan base quite as much as this one so I'd like to see the opinion reflected in a poll.

In my opinion we are losing the best RB in the league, to a rival that had a major deficiency in this position last season. Not only that, but he was a player I really liked, who I felt could become Spurs captain one day and was ultimately the last relic of the Redknapp era (Rose and Kane were only reserves back then). For those reasons I can't bring myself to be happy about this - and that's before we consider that with Son and Rose out injured, our only players with any real pace are Sissoko and N'Koudou who could both easily be binned before the season starts. We may yet find a suitable replacement and I do like Trippier as well, however I can't help but worry people will start calling us a selling club now which could not only affect who we can bring in but might start making the likes of Kane, Alli or Lloris consider their own futures.

On the other hand - it's a huge amount of money. A world record fee for a defender. And whilst we may point to the fact that they paid almost that for John Stones, we need to remember that Walker is 27 years old, at the peak of his career and is hugely dependent on his pace, meaning that if that declines in the next 3 or 4 years as most footballers do when they reach that age he'll be effectively finished at this level and we could be talking about selling him for a tenth of what we've been offered. He is clearly an animated and vocal personality, and was poor towards the end of last season so if Poch has decided that his head's gone and he will be a negative influence then it makes sense to get rid of him before - he has always pushed to maintain a positive and determined atmosphere at the club and has iced anyone who has threatened that immediately, so perhaps it is best to sell him quickly and avoid him bringing any bad vibes to pre-season training. Is there any shame in being a "selling club" if you are getting the better deal? Was it a negative against Juve for letting Pogba go? Or against Chelsea for letting Oscar go?

Personally I'm very disappointed, although I can appreciate the logic in selling him now. One thing is for sure - it doesn't matter how well any replacements do, for every trophy we don't win next season somebody will say it was because of this transfer.

We have weakened the team imo. people can say what they like of Walker but the bottom line he is better then Trippier. It would of been better to sell Trippier to Man C and given Walker a pay rise with money left over.

but what the hell do i know

On the fence for sure.

Walker sold + pathetic attempt at incomings = awful decision
Walker sold + money re-invested in quality = very good decision

Quite simple for me, couldn't give you an answer either way until September 1st.

Not sure as he is a great attacking right back. I do worry sometimes defensively though. His pace gets him out of a lot of bother sometimes. That will eventually go with age / one bad hammy injury.

However his position vs west ham away this season was so bad not even his pace could get him out of bother.

Is this the right time to sell am not sure so guess am on the fence.

We are worse today but the full picture is not yet known. Right Back is a position of strength and if the reports of KWP almost being ready are true, then it may not be so bad. It all depends on what we do with the money - assuming Levy doesn't just put it in his pocket.

Reminds me of 2012/2013. We sold Luca but wound up buying Hugo, Verts and Dembele with his money. I miss the little guy often but there is no doubt that we bought well with his money and it laid the foundations for the team we have today which just finished 2nd in the league. .

50+ million is a lot of money even in today's terms. Let's see how it plays out.

That's why part of me thinks that maybe we could look back on this as a masterstroke. I've always had mates that didn't rate Walker because he gets caught out of position and relies on his pace to recover, to which I've always said who cares - if he can recover then there's no problem. But what if he can't recover any more? He may be a top RB now but that could change quite quickly if he gets a bad injury or two. I remember back in the days when Leeds were throwing money around at bid £15m for Iversen when it was a huge amount of money and we rejected it, only to let him go on a free transfer a couple of years later and kick ourselves.

But on the other hand - we sold Pat Jennings to Arsenal because he was supposedly past it and yet they got eight years out of him!

Like others, I'm on the fence with this one as only time will tell if it's a good or a bad decision.

I don't like it though. Not because I give two shits about a bunch of numpties labelling us a selling club, but because we now lose a valuable asset, regardless of whether it was his choice, ours or a combination of both.

Having said that, I felt this way when Bale left, when Modric left, when VDV moved on, when Teddy left, even when Judas left, but we progressively got better and better.

For every step back we've taken over the last decade or so, we've ended up taking 2 steps forward. So, whilst this sticks in the craw a bit, our recent history shows that we improve, so I feel that there is reason to remain optimistic regardless.

I always liked the lad, but I do hope he has the same impact for City that Stones did.

Sounds like he committed the cardinal sin of no longer listening to Poch and getting his own ideas about how things should be done.

Everyone loved it when he bombed out the Kaboul cabal for this, no one really gave a shit when Bentaleb seemingly fell by the wayside due to this also, inevitable though that at some point one of the fan favourites would test him... And we have the answer, looks like Poch is ruthless and won't let individuals disrupt the collective.

I'd rather we didn't sell him but I'm absolutely ok with Trippier and was really impressed by what he brings to the team (not many better crossers of the ball in the league imo). He wants to go so bleed the bastards dry and use the money for something good like a giant water fountain at new WHL that does a choreographed display to Diamond Lights on the hour every hour.

We lose a really good player but bigger picture we aren't that much weaker without him and if we have to turnover a player, that one weakens us the least of all.

So not happy, not upset, a big fat 'yeah ok' from me.

Trippier is a good defender, not as pacy, but way better distribution and crossing than KW. And not always getting caught out of position and relying on pace to make up for it. KW always has a brainfart in him, so, to be honest, for the money and given how able KT is - not forgetting KWP waiting in the wings and even Dier able to play there - I'm fine with it. If the idiots in the media want to trot out the old "selling club" rubbish, that's their pathetic business. Kyle imo was the weakest link in our defence and we can honestly do better.

Which is precisely how it should be.

I'm pleased we sold the best right back in the country to City as they have had a poor couple of years and needed to strengthen their defence to have a real go at the title this year. Maybe we could sell Dier to Utd as they also need to strengthen for a real shot at it also.

Think we are really gonna miss him, especially at Wembley on that pitch we need all the pace and width we can get.
I like Trippier but walkers pace got us out of trouble with the high defensive line we play - Danny Rose can't come back quick enough.

Every time I've looked back at the poll since creating it then it's swung in favour of the opposite side...

He was aggitating for the move, Tripps isnt a step down and we got a world record fee for him. If he had wanted to stay he'd be here so under the circumstances we've done well out of it

Walker is 27 years old, reliant on pace, reportedly hasn't shown the right attitude and certainly played like absolute shit once the rumours started - which I don't put down to coincidence. If City want to pay us £50-60m for him, while we've got a more than capable backup, a very exciting youth player and (hopefully) another right-back coming in, I'd be running all the way to the bank.

Put it this way, if we were spending £50m on a 27-year-old pace merchant prone to brain farts who'd fallen out with his previous manager I don't think anyone would be overly delighted.
