I can't say i always enjoy watching atletico but I think their achievement is the most incredible of any of the major European leagues for a good few years. In the last decade or so only Wolfsburg's bundesliga occurs to me as a rival. ?

Montpellier winning Ligue 1 is as big an achievement.

I wouldn't mind having that Sanchez bloke here. The way he was able to keep the ball when being pressed by two Barcelona players blew the socks off of me. I actually mistook him for Messi a couple of times.

On a more frivolous note, Barcelona need a new team barber. WTF is going on with Pique and Messi's barnets? Pique looks like he has a dead otter on top of his head.

Sanchez gets a lot of stick from Barca fans because he's not as technically proficient as the La Masia graduates but he makes up for it with his directness and pace which isn't a bad thing, allows them to mix it up a bit.

I like him I think he's a good player.

Not even close. At that time Ligue 1 had nothing like the quality of Spain generally or two behemoths like barca and rm.

It was a great achievement but not in the same ball park IMO ?

Just in terms of a small team doing something that seemed impossible.

Atletico are much bigger than Montpellier.

I was at the game, the gave them a standing ovation, and if I understood right they even sang their name ( I may be wrong they may have been saying something that sounds like "atleti").

@mpickard2087

I wasn't imagining things :
(From Paul Rowan - The Times)

All but a few hundred of the 99,000 crowd were home fans, but they all stood to applaud Atletico at the final whistle, acknowledging that Diego Simeone’s team were worthy champions. The Barcelona fans even chanted “Atleti, Atleti.”

True but the french league was more of a even playing field whereas the spanish league isn't even fair

Also Atletico have the opportunity to sustain success if they can keep their midfield 3 of Torres, Saul and Koke imo

Always had a soft spot for Atleti, seemed like the Spanish Spurs in many ways - good traditions, in the shadow of their capital rivals, some poor owners and suffered from some hideous luck, or seeming to bottle it.

Simeone is turning water into wine,

If you look to the left of the screen at the top of the stadium on the left hand side, you can see the little pocket of Atletico fans:

Looks pretty incredible BC.

That away allocation is tiny!

In what is already a fairly surreal experience, seeing that little sliver of away fans placed up in the gods like that just added to the surrealness. It's like they've been placed on a nearby mountain overlooking the game.

It really is hard to get across how high that stadium goes. My ticket was in the middle tier, but I love being high up, so I went for a wander up to the third tier and found a single empty seat but some bod turned up and I had to move so I went up even higher to the upper third/fourth tier and again found the only seat vacant, on the edge of a row and this time no-one turned up to claim it so I stayed there. Incredible view from up there, including of the surrounding hills and scenery.
