If it's happening with Spanish clubs it will happen to English clubs as well. Can anyone think of a premier league club that would be stupid enough to agree to play a home game at a different venue? :cautious:

I've been thinking about this, if they were to do it, it should be the home and away games for both teams played back to back in 2 cities that are close to each other, for example Spurs v Everton played in NYC and 3 days later Everton v Spurs in Boston as an example.

But then is it fair that the English fans of those clubs will miss two of their fixtures that season? Maybe the second fixture could be at a neutral venue in England so that neither team had home advantage in either match?

Can you imagine the reaction if we paid out for our season tickets then found out the NLD was going to be played in Texas :wideyed:

I don't agree with doing this at all.

It will give other teams more of an advantage that arnt playing a home game at neutral venue, might only be 3 points but that could be the difference between staying up or getting going down, or finishing in a place for CL/Europa or even to win the league if it's tight.

They would have to rotate it every year so the same teams don't always end up being the same teams going over, but would a game like westham vs Newcastle really appeal to USA, or anywhere else it could get played? They will always want the top teams.

I honestly don't think they'd get away with doing that. There would be uproar from fans from all clubs who would see it could happen to them the following season. It would have to be a cat B or C game they was played abroad.

That's why they're need to pick a big team against a little team each year with the big team giving up home advantage. Someone like City should still beat Bournemouth or West Ham at a neutral venue and neither of those sides would be unhappy with not facing City at their ground.

Fuck that. Those pre-season jamboree games are bad enough.

If people in the US (or wherever) want to watch live football how about following their own teams? Grow and support their own leagues. If you choose to follow a team halfway across the globe then you have to accept its going to be difficult to watch them play.

Teams shouldn't be sacking off local fans in order to chase more money. We know what happens - One game will become two, becomes.......

I know the top teams should win but what if we faces say Cardiff at a neutral venue, lose and finish 5th 2 or 1 point behind 4th? Yet if we played at home and won, we got 4th.

Not saying that will happen often, but if it did just once then can see teams saying they don't want to be put at a disadvantage to their rivals.

For Spain if it's the top clubs, you are only taking 4 or 5 clubs that will rotate each year.

Would the club playing away also be compensated the same revenue they would have got with gate sales and all that for playing away?

I agree. I don't like the idea of it at all. Clubs will only accept playing over there for big financial rewards though and I just think that the big clubs will be prepared to take that risk at some point.

I think it’s only matter of time before we follow suit. From a financial viewpoint the rewards are just too lucrative to resist.

What financial viewpoint? What rewards? Just because a game will be played in america doesn't mean that suddenly la liga will get any more supporters. Yes they can sell tickets to the game but the will have to pay for the venue and will miss out on tickets they could have sold at their own venue. The will not get any more from tv rights as they have already been sold. They might sell some merch at the game might even sell 50,000 shirts at £50 a pop. A cool £2.5m. Not exactly going to buy them much in the current market.

It's the thin end of the wedge, and one of those things that should be rejected out of hand on principle. Like the existence of MK Dons. An idea proposed by ****s.

Never got the hatred of mk dons. Wimbledon were probably the most vile football club in the history of football. I for one am glad they no longer exist.

Don't like the sound of that at all and hope it never comes to the Premier League.

Didn't we get £10m+ just the friendlies out there over the summer? You'd think that a Premier league game out there will earn clubs much more.

No matter what you might think of the club and the style they became known for, Wimbledon earned their place in the league system on merit and then had it taken away from them by a franchise. It was a victory for all football when MK dropped a division below them this summer.

Always though this was a strange deal.

In the US, you do see Premier League shirts from time to time, but very few LA Liga shirts. Even then they are always Real Madrid or Barcelona. I don't think i've ever seen another Spanish team out there. Or maybe that's the point?
