Our captains let us down last night, non more so than Romero obviously.
We started like a train and Chelsea couldn't cope with us. The match changed after Udogies tackle which seemed to be the point where we abandoned playing football and just wanted to kick the shit out of Chelsea.
Why didn't our captains try and change this?!
People will point to Son chasing down the keeper at 4-1 and yes his work ethic was great but he's captain of both us and his country. We needed him to settle the team down especially Romero who was lucky to stay on after first tackle.
Ange needs to sort this in next 2 windows. If our 3 captains cant carry out one of the main responsibilities then we need to ensure one or two of our next signings have the personality to be leaders on pitch even if that means we sacrifice a little quality for that. And no that doesn't mean we sell son and Madison or anything like that but the team will be evolving in coming windows and the mentality of who we buy is crucial.

Romero has that moment of madness in him and I don't believe at this point it can be coached out of him. He neede to play on the edge to perform at his best. When he does he is an excellent defender. The risk is you get him overdoing it like last night.

Udogie got an early booking at Arsenal but after that was inch perfect in nullifying Saka. He's 20 and he'll learn from this. For me there was leadership after that as every player gave it their best shot to keep going but tiredness and the high line at 9 vs 11 inevitably mixes together and you end up shipping in four. I have confidence we can put this behind us with Ange whereas under the past few managers I think it would be the start of a collapse.

The game was so frantic for that brief period from Udogie's tackle to Romero being sent off that there wasn't a lot of time to settle anyone down. Factor in a referee who decided to stop calling any sort of foul whatsoever during that same time period, the fans being very loud with their displeasure at said referee, our players got frustrated and lost their cool. There was foul after foul that the ref was letting go during that time of the game and he lost complete control of it, leading to things boiling over.

You ok hon?
seriously mate if this is the conclusion you came to from watching this game I have grave doubts on your judgement. Even Ange said in his interview that he thought Udogie’s challenge was 50-50.

Udogie could easily have gone so yea it was 50/50 but luckily he didn't. Romero could have went before he did. It was completely reminiscent of battle of bridge were we were the better side but then stopped playing football and decided to try kick 7 shades out of them. No one tried to calm things down and that's were you're looking for your experienced players and the captain to step up and unfortunately none of them did. People will direct alot of blame on Romero and they should but even though likes of Son put in a huge shift if he had of tried to calm some players down things could have gone much differently

I thought we were a bit hyped up and needed someone to say calm down, and I read Kulusevski said the same

i was hoping Ange would get a message on but he doesn’t seem to intervene during the game 🤷🏼‍♀️
So I agree the 3 captains should sort it, though as Romero is one of them not a lot of chance of that from him

We were behind the goal, and 3 or 4 minutes before the sending of fans were saying, Romero is going to get sent off. It wasn’t a moment of madness he was already in the frame of mind, if he had not charged up the field it’s likely we would have won it seemed he lost the plot after.
