when looking at the reserve fixtures over xmas i realised there were absolutely none and there next game is monday 7th of january against derby!!!

And so how is ledley, rocha and the other players injured supposed to become match fit or fit enough to go straight into the first team?

ledley played 45 minutes the other day along with rocha and if we maybe had a reserve game every week then they may be back in contention before the new years.

has anyone heard of any 'behind closed door games'???

There's supposed to be a friendly against Liverpool Reserves at Brisbane Road on the 17th.

But yes, the whole question of reserve games needs looking at.

I thought this the other day when I saw that there were no more games left for him to play. Perhaps they just wanted to test his knee and that now that it has come through it all that he needs is to push on with his fitness?

You would imagine that given our fairly desperate plight that they will organise closed-door games or reserve friendlies in order to speed up his fitness. I reckon he will play at man city and will start against Arsenal if all is well.

I also think that he will have a favoured partnership of King and Rocha, which would be my favoured pairing.

Top players don't normally get reserve team run outs. Utd would never play rooney in a friendly even after the 1st meatarsal injury which left him with no football from June till september his forst football was the CL not a reserve game.
The fact Ledley got 45mins is a rareity for a world class footballer.
Also what do you think happens in Italy and Spain? they don't even have reserve teams!!! It's all in the training and then first team action.

Ledley will pay 1st team football before the 7th of Jan.

Let's face it 'Chaps', Ledley can be no worse than the current CB set up! Again, yesterday, they showed how naive they really are. In a perfect world we should be 15-17 points better off and it is largely due to incompetence at CB (defensive blunders in general!). I feel that, between them, they have 'scutled' our season....and a good season will be a uefa Cup run and perhaps even a WIN but it is not looking likely at present.
Well, concerning Mr King, I would hope that he will be a 'strong' influence on others but I take nothing for granted, anymore, at WHL COYS!

everyone loves to have a pop at dawson and kaboul, there still young..."the ultimate test of man's conscience may be his willingness to sacarifice something today for future generations"

they might be making mistakes now but in one or two seasons they we be a force to reckon with...!!!

Well in Spain if they really need to they can go and play for the B or C team,

The lack of reserve games is a problem as Rocha and King need games to ease them back into things (ledley especially needs it!).

Another thing about reserve games for me, is why don't we play the fringe players from the first team a bit more. Stalteri is one player for example who has played something like only 3 games this year I'd say Eek Players do need to be playing regularly enough so why not give some of the fringe players the odd reserve game?

That is not really true. Most clubs, including Spurs, rehabilitate players through the reserve team after they have been out for a long time through injury. I have particualrly fond memories of Ashley Cole's road to recovery being set back by a bruising challenge from Andy Barcham.

dont our reserves have some friendlies lined up (or maybe already played) agaisnt some europian teams again this year? i dont think they are in the few weeks that are spare (but with the amount of first team football coming up, most teams dive into there reserves and dont have spare players to put back into for these reserve games) but i think them playing against these teams will help the reserves improve alot more, but maybe not help returning players from injuries as well

Thats actually a great exception that proves the rule and higlights exactly why world class players don't rehabilitate through the reserves.

think about it.

you don't play reserve team football till your healed from an injury. you don' risk such a major asset on often worst pitches, weaker ref's and hot headed youngsters. Trust me Gerard, Rooney, ronaldo etc etc won't ever play reserve team football while they are "teir one" footballers.

not really they are registered football teams in competvie leagues,to play for one you still have to adhere somewhat to the transfer window rules. Ronaldhino will never ever play for Barca B. If he broke his leg his first appearance back will be for the first team.
