Our Academy won their second penalty shoot-out in three days to take third place in the Copa Chivas tournament in Mexico on Sunday.

The lads faced host team Club Deportivo Guadalajara - more famously known as 'Chivas' - in the third/fourth place play-off after losing to FC Atlas in Saturday's semi-final.

They should have wrapped things up in normal time only to concede a goal two minutes into injury time for a final 2-2 scoreline to take it into penalties.

In a repeat of Friday's quarter-final, the lads kept their nerve to complete another 100 per cent record to take the shoot-out 4-2.

Coach Alex Inglethorpe reported: "We went 1-0 up through Harry Kane, who took a good touch from Kudos Oyenuga's pass and slid the ball under the goalkeeper as he came out.

"Chivas equalised but we went 2-1 up in the second half when Jon Obika dropped his shoulder on the edge of the box and fired low into the corner from about 20 yards.

"That looked like it would be enough but we then conceded two minutes into added time. We'd played really well and deserved to win it in normal time, so that was a blow.

"Once again though the lads picked themselves up, regrouped and we scored all four of our penalties through Dean Parrett, Jon Obika, Yaser Kasim and Ryan Mason.

"I quickly brought on Oscar Jansson for Jamie Butler for the shoot-out as he's somewhat of an expert and he saved one of their penalties and Chivas missed one.

"The lads thoroughly deserved to take third place overall and that's third out of 24 teams in one of the world's top youth tournaments, a tournament held in high esteem out here in South America.

"We've played eight games in nine days in the heat and at altitude and we've come through it with flying colours.

"The lads have been fantastic and I've been delighted with the quality of our football - we've made a lot of friends out here as well."

Spurs: Butler (Jansson), Nicholson, Byrne, Mason, Caulker, Smith (Butcher), Ekim (Kasim), Parrett, Oyenuga (Obika), Kane (Bostock), M'poku.

Superb. I really hope that some of these kids make the jump to the First team for once.

    Awesome.

Looking forward to drawing the Carling Cup Final and Harry bringing on Jansson for Gomes in the 119th minute.

What I want to know is who is Harry Kane and where did he come from so suddenly? This kid is from the U16 side, but he was deemed good enough to go to a major international tournament. So what happens? He gets selected for the side and immediately starts scoring goals.

It's also very striking that it's been the same players mentioned in virtually every dispatch: Mason, Obika, Berchiche, Jansson and Smith - to a lesser extent, Bostock and Parrett. Those seem to be the ones who have done their reputations the most credit out there.

BBLG keeps going on about Ryan Mason and, if anyone has been the star of the show, he has. The question about him is going to be: can he cut it against more physically-developed adult players?

Reading about the Academy players is an excellent antidote to the depressing performance of our senior players and the awful non- news of the transfer window.
