He's not good enough face it. He's had over a year now to prove most of us wrong and has failed miserabley. Not cut out for the top league I'm Afraid ship him back to Italy, although speaking to fiorentina fans last night they said they wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. Salah is twice the player lamela is.
You sound like one of them failed footballers, did you have a trial at Spurs and they said no thanks your not good enough.
Not cut out for the top league I'm afraid, really?
Sorry to piss on fire but Lamela scored 15 goals at 20/21.

Not for us he didn't.

How long are we going to cling to the fact that he was good two seasons ago in a different league? By that argument we should be starting Soldado, Capoue and Paulinho in every game as well.

Absolutely. The PL may not be the best league in the world, but it has certain characteristics just like the other top leagues. And I wish we'd actually consider these characteristics before we actually sign players.

I'd be happy if he got 5 in the prem ! He's nowhere near. He's weak as piss as well. Hopefully nowhere near the starting lineup Sunday

His first season at Roma he scored 2.
Second season 15.
First season here (playing football, being injured is not playing) 4 goals and 8 assists.
I don't disagree with what some posters are saying, but the abuse directed at Lamela is disgraceful.
Continually loses the ball? Err no, that's not true.
Someone came in here and quoted stats for the first 4 months of the season last week.
Said he lost the ball the most in them 4 months, yes everybody agreed his ball retention needed to be better.
When asked how that state has changed since then, he didn't know and said it was someone else now.
He pass completion rate is 82%. That's a lot better from the 70% odd at the beginning of the season.
Come next season I could be saying time for Erik to move to new pastures.

He can't do it in the prem, so let's see how he fares when he goes back to a serie A side (a league he used to score goals for fun) ? Yep he was equally poor. Get rid spurs and soon

Got a Crystal ball now have we?
Do you know how stupid that statement is?

I can completely understand the criticism of Soldado last night, but I do find it strange that Lamela was the only other player thread bumped negatively despite being one of our better performers in the first half. Against West Ham being one of our biggest threats when we actually started playing for 15 minutes at the end (not claiming this is impressive by the way), Had a pretty poor/rubbsih 15 minute cameo against Fiorentina 1st leg, Played really well against Liverpool and was part of one of the best team performances I have seen in recent times against Arsenal.

There just seems like a huge discrepancy between the completely unbalanced criticism he gets and what he deserves, and a different way of classifying his performances compared to other people rating their favourites. Especially when you consider what he brings to the 'team' in terms of the style of play Poch is trying to implement tactically.

Oh well, I can see the tide has turned and not much of what I will say will make any difference.

Hope he continues to show those moments of class more consistently and while he is playing for us people try and support him. Although judging by some of the mindless drivel directed towards him the last few time i've been to the Lane..i'm not getting my hopes up.

I agree that any of the personal abuse he gets is unjustified, but criticism of his play is fair enough.

4 goals and 8 assists against who? Ukrainian second division teams and QPR?

And if we're talking about his pass completion rate then I think we're clutching at straws.

I really really want him to be a success for Spurs...but there is absolutely nothing in his performances that suggests he's going to be a success at all.

Ok so he hasn't done it in the prem. Let's give him another couple of seasons shall we ? Even though he can't beat his man now, he loses control of the football on the half turn 9 times out of 10 he losses the ball in great positions around the box, he is weak and gets pushed off ball like a little girl. He's not good enough.

When we needed our big players to step up he went missing, and not for the first time.

He actually set up more chances for them than us in the second half last night.

And just look at your first paragraph. He was good for 15 minutes against West Ham? He was part of a 'team performance' against Arsenal? It just looks like straw clutching.

I also hope we see more moments of class from him, but at the moment we're seeing about one in every three games, so I think we're quite a long way from him being consistent.

I'm still optimistic about Lamela.

He plays with his head up and tries to make things happen. Compare this with Townsend who plays with his head down and just repeats himself.

I really thought he would benefit playing with Eriksen and Soldado and can still remember how hopeful I was about those three forming an understanding :(:banghead:

Lamela has the artillery to be a world class player, his application to work hard is unquestionably, Lamela's also good in possession and assisting attacking play.

What's very obvious with Lamela is a lack of electric pace although he seems quick enough with the ball at feet...we need to see more goals which I believe will come.

You've got nothing to back up them claims.
Come back when you have and we can debate.

He doesnt only get unbalanced criticism and there are plenty of people who are more than fair with him.

We all hope he shows more moments of class, more strength on the ball, quicker passing, beating a man more often than not, getting to the byline, crossing more, shooting more etc....

What he does for the team in terms of tracking back is commendable and we all appreciate it but we bought a player that was meant to be able to unlock and stretch defenses, score goals, create chances.

He may very well be a late bloomer, taking a lot more time to get up to speed etc but he, for whatever reason, is not shining anywhere near consistently enough as a player who 'obviously has immense talent'

No one is claiming he doesn't need to improve.

He most certainly does, along with many others it must be said.

However,
I am claiming he hasn't been as poor as many make out.
I do claim he has offered some fantastic moments of quality in our colours.
I do claim that selling him is the wrong option.

Frustrating to watch, but one of few who plays with his head up and looks to create things for others instead of himself.

Time will tell if he can fulfil his potential, but he isn't going to be sold anytime soon and will be starting more games than not, so people just need to back him and our manager
