Its a slow process as he then needs to go through being introduced to them one by one as well as collectivley.

Townsend should not have come off but that fact that he did lammy should had replaced him.

I think Chadli was the right call at the time. He back tracks better then Lamela and has helped defensively at times albeit the other side. Had it happened after the red card would have been Lamela instead I believe. Oscar was dangerous on the left.

The draw before the red card is fair unfortunately.

Love that we have have so many options off the bench. Usually last year unless it was an injury we would have been the usual suspects almost no matter the situation.

The only reason I can see why avb is only gradually bringing him in is the language barrier maybe. Just hope he's not getting frustrated with his small cameos or no minutes at all.

I'm not sure what Lamela must be thinking.

AVB says he's young and from a foreign league and needs to be acclimatised but Eriksen is only 3 weeks older than him and he gets thrown straight in. Is the fact Eriksen speaks English the only factor? AVB then keeps saying to the press Lamela is immense and going to be one of our most prolific players. He's £30m and AVB is keeping him for the Europa League and Carling Cup. And then leaving him on the bench and bring on the distinctively-average Chadli....

I can't fathom it.

Yeah he's been here what 5 weeks? Should be first on the team sheet by now. Also probably our all time record goal scorer and won us the champions league 3 times.

Townsend played well today, and made good decisions. I think it's great that Lamela is going to have to earn his place on merit, it can only be good for us. And I have liked what I have seen from Lamela so it's great that we have these options, but on todays performance you wouldn't drop Townsend for the next match.

I like lamela but i think we have missed lennon. He makes such a difference and is generally only missed when he isnt there. Lamela will need to be at his best to start regularly this season imo.

Genuinely not sure if this is tongue in cheek ? Because, we often miss him when he is there.

You have to delve deeper then that, it's not quite that black and white.

I can totally understand Lamela's lack of participation so far. Comparing to him to Eriksen is a bad example, they might be the same age, but age is just a number. Eriksen has been a mainstay for Ajax for many years, in addition to racking up 40 odd caps for his country. He already has the know how of being heavily relied upon and the key man for his club - so to come to spurs and be a team player / playmaker shouldn't be something that requires 'easing into'.

Lamela on the other hand, young, inexperienced, has burst onto the scene only of late... He had a good season at Roma last year, we recognised his obvious talent and ultimately had to pay the 30m required to nab him away from them.

His development is key, and AVB clearly doesn't want to stutter that. He is young, so chucking him into the first team immediately could be detrimental to his long term progress. With his price tag etc.. fickle fans may expect a little too much, it could impact him mentally and stutter his growth.

We have seen glimpses of what he is capable of, the EPL is a new league to him - he needs time to be eased in for sure. At some point this will culminate in an EPL debut, but I don't expect him to start every single game.

Expect to see him heavily involved in the cup comps (EL, Cap One, and F.A) - but I believe next year will truly be his breakthrough season in the EPL.

He's probably only going to feel comfortable when he gets some good performances for our fans and his teammates to see. Not playing him or 'giving him time to settle' might make him more uncomfortable.

AVB sees and presumably speaks to lamela everyday and so is in a better position to make the decision than any of us could ever be.

Secondly who does he drop?

Finally I also think AVB deserves the benefit of our trust on this one as he carried out the introduction of lloris perfectly last year.

Hate to break it to the Lennon crowd but he isn't even making the bench when he's back at this rate
