Inter-Lazio and all Sunday’s Serie A games could be called off after a Lazio fan was killed – apparently by a policeman – during a fight with Juventus supporters.

Initial reports are low on details at the moment, but it is believed two groups of Ultras clashed when they crossed paths at a motorway service station in Badia al Pino, Arezzo.

A Lazio fan was killed during the fighting, but it is currently claimed this was an accident caused by police officers.

A shot rang out to try to distract the group and the news agencies are suggesting the bullet struck the Lazio supporter.

An emergency meeting is currently being held between Lega Calcio President Antonio Matarrese and police chief Antonio Manganelli to decide whether to suspend Inter-Lazio or possibly the entire Week 12 fixture list.

There are fears that if it is confirmed a fan was killed by police officers, the tension between them and the Ultras around Italy will rise to dangerous levels this weekend.

It's a real mess I have to say, but I'm hardly surprised. Apparently the cop fired off a warning shot to break up the fans and it somehow hit the guy in the car.

Unfortunately they didn't cancel all the games and what follows was a reaction from the hooligan elements of the fans. To be honest the violence has been simmering ever since the incidents at the Palermo v Catania game last season.

It's all over the news here, obviously, but it is a real disgrace. Firstly Italian football needs to realise that they can't try to control football by force, it will never work and always provokes a retalitary action. Secondly the hooligan elements should be systematically eliminated, much in the way they have done in England, at least eliminate them from the stadiums, because above all football is a game, it should be enjoyable. When it gets to the level of torching buses and having a rampage through the streets of Rome then it has to come to jail time for everyone involved.

Will try and keep up to date on what is being said in the Italian media and keep youall posted, but in my opinion the only thing they can do right now is to postpone the season and sort themselves out. Although that may cause more problems than solutions.

Apparently the gun went off when he was running. You have to ask why he had it locked and loaded, seems a little extreme to sort out a squabble between a few football fans to say the least.

It is a big problem with the Italian police. I still don't understand why the traffic police carry guns. Some form of non lethal control would be far more appropriate as it would seem very unlikely they would ever need to use the guns.

One time I got stopped walking to work by two traffic cops, armed with machine guns and in full body armor. They point the guns at you while you search your pockets for identification, it's absolutely ridiculous. I live in a tiny village as well where the majority of people are over 60, it's a real problem.
