Wondered how our present season measured up to our two championship seasons 51 and 61, so I went back and found the numbers. 51 and 61 both featured 42 games, so I took and scaled it down to 38. Here's the results:

Arguably 2017 is our 2nd best season ever, not much shy of 61. Incidently 86 points are the average no. of points of the champion since the creation of the premier league system.

Got to remember that the league was a lot more balanced in that era. Lower disparity between the teams in terms of quality, and home advantage far more important. To achieve 88 points then is far more remarkable an achievement than it would be today. For instance, while we finished with 66 points in 61 (while it was two points for a win), the champions got only 55 the year before and 56 the year after - equivalent to winning the league with 74 in the prior case which would only have got you sixth in reality this season.
