I love lee, doesnt get the credit because he goes about his job quietly and efficiently

i bet if he waved his (Keane and Berbatov)arms around or was vocal (like Dawson) people would like him. but neither effect what he does on the pitch.

and im not saying those players are good because they do what they do. Just before someone jumps on my back.

Everybody already knows where I stand on the LYP debate, but just in case you have forgotten, he is one of the top 5 LB's in the world and has been for a long time. Getting him so cheaply was a master-stoke.

Easily our most consistently good player since he joined us.

Bales defending this season has been cack.

Definite LM every time for me. In Bale's pace and crossing ability and Lee's defensive quality & quick feet we have the ultimate left sided footballer

if lee was english and called johnno or smithy or davey-boy he'd be playing for england and the same visually impaired people that always slag him off would be calling him the best left back in england.

and all that diagonal ball, easy target, aerially weak bollocks never seems to apply to ashley cole, who's about the same size and build.

Lee is actually taller than Cashley, Baines and Warnock, and the same height as Shorey and Evra.

I'm joining the pro-Lee brigade. He's underrated and am happy to have him in the side. I think the points that Flatters made sums it all up. Shelfspur you're a...

Lee isn't underrated. I agree with the general jist of the thread and think he deserves praise, but I disagree that he is one of those players that is always slated. I rarely see anything but positive comments for Lee. All our players get slated at times, but Lee certainly less than most. You'll find far more anti Keane (24 goals in 31 games) posts and threads than for Lee. Just take this thread for example, only 1 or 2 people are saying anti Lee stuff, yet if a similar thread was started for any of our other players (bar a couple of exceptions) there would be a host of people who view which ever player it is negatively. Basically Lee is a very good LB and I think our fans in general rate him as such. I think he is one of the few players that most fans do rate.

I feel it is high time Lee could cross with his left. His continual stopping and dragging the ball onto his right foot means the flow of the attack stops and he is so predictable the opposition know what he will do. Anyone who thinks he does not need to cross the ball with his left is living in the dark ages. Someone even said that players in his position should not be expected to cross the ball at all !! Being a good defender is not enough, in todays game he has to create opportunities as well. He would be an obvious candidate to have extra training to work on his weakness i.e. his left foot. Surely the powers that be can see this would be a definite improvement to his game and therefore the overall team performance. Or is it easier just to accept these failings for an easy time? Get them back for extra training as happened this week to tighten up the defence as they owe it to the supporters who do not deserve to be given half measures.

I don't know if you remember Joey, but in his first season Lee was slated mercilessly by alot of idiots on here - and at the ground. A handful of us (I only remember Carl and SS for sure but there were a couple of others) were really fucked off and recognised that we were fucking lucky to have a player of his quality.

I said then and i say it again, I'm 42 and I haven't seen a better LB at our club (Knowles was really before my recollection although I did see him).

The problem with Keane is the bypolar prformance level. He is an enigma. One minute he trapping a keepers kick on the spin the next he can't control a five yard through ball. Anywhere other than in/around the box and I find him frustrating - almost a hindrance. But with chances he is great in general and his scoring record for this club is superb.
I love thelittle fella but some days he does my head in. he can be anonimous for most of a game. Which for someone with his ability is a travesty. But then he'll pop up with a goal and save the day. Enigma.

Well he's been here for 2 and a bit seasons now and I'm sure if for some odd reason someone went through all the posts on the site after Leds, Bale, Berbatov and maybe Lennon, Lee would have the highest ratio of positive to negative comments.

Joey there are threads here mate which have the vast majority of people slating Lee to kingdom come, with only a few stating their opinion was otherwise. Some of the people in this thread have been involved previously too.

As BC said, there have been are very few people who have been behind Lee from the start, it took most until the middle of last season before the majority started to appreciate just what a huge talent we have at LB.

It's been a long and largely frustrating road and a hell of a lot of effort from those who have seen his quality from the start for the majority of opinion from the vocal on here to switch from slating him every chance they got to true appreciation that he has chosen to give us his best footballing years.

I'm not going to harp on about it because it's past and he is now getting the recognition which his performances deserve which is all I personally care about, but believe me, for the majority of his tenure with us, he has been very much under-appreciated.

If we did a, "do you rate poll" for our players and I bet Lee finishes with a "yes" % in the top 5 of our players.

Would be interesting to find out...go for it :)

What do you think the question should be? "Do you rate", is a bit vague, as I'm sure everyone rates Taraabt, but that doesn't mean everyone thinks he is good enough for the 1st team.

"Which players of our players are good enough to make us a top 4 side?"
