Signing we signed Rafa five past five!

That was different though. You don't have to submit everything by the deadline. I don't know the specifics but as long as you get certain things submitted in time, you have slightly longer to get some of the final paperwork prepared. IIRC we got everything we needed to do in time but then were just finalizing some things after the deadline which is perfectly normal. Sounds like Leicester didn't do the first bit right.

Window closed at 6pm didnt it?

No idea why you've forged my quote like that.

I think we blamed it on a broken fax machine...

Exactly. They can say what they like about it being "only" 14 seconds but the fact is you shouldn't be messing around trying to get it all sent off that close to the deadline anyway. Just because the deadline is at 11pm (for argument's sake) doesn't mean you have to send it bang on the deadline, that's the absolute latest you need it sent by. No excuse from Leicester really, absolute amateur hour. Zero sympathy from me.
If you're close to signing a player then you tend to be given extra time

Im pretty sure Arshavin was signed midday, the day after or might have been VDV

As far as I know there's certain things that you have to get done by the deadline and others you can can be given extra time for. If you think you're not going to make the deadline, there's some other shorter form that you can fill out with the basic info and as long as you get that in by the deadline you have extra time to complete the paperwork for the transfer.

Leicester failed to submit the extension paperwork in time.
That's their own fault.

Apparently the deal HAS been completed, but he's ineligible to play until January.

Interesting that we were one of 14 clubs that voted in favour of the window being closed before the season starts. Seems Levy is not as big a fan of last minute deals as it would seem.

Because the deadline moving backwards stops there being a deadline, right?

Alright they are the ones who put themselves in that position leaving the deal to the last minute, but I do think this is a bit harsh. If only FIFA was so zealous on racism, corruption etc....

I seem to remember the Filth signing Arshavin way after the deadline had passed (because it was snowing in Russia or some such bollocks).

True, but much less opportunities for those deals.

All depends on whether it gets moved for the rest of Europe but if it does there's no reason why the same deals wouldn't be around imo

If anything just makes those deals more attractive as even if you wait last minute the players will still be in for the first game

Not really. People will use whatever time they have. Half of the window is wasted time with people just posturing and trying to call each other's bluff. Whether you've got 2 weeks or 2 months won't make a difference, people will still get the same amount of deals done, somebody has to blink eventually in either scenario, it'll just happen quicker now, and the deadline is still the deadline.

I get what you are saying but for instance I doubt we would have got Rafa if our window closed earlier.

Think it's just for the PL, don't see why the rest would change.

No probably not but a) that sort of situation is pretty rare, was pure dumb luck on our part b) that's why they need to make this rule apply to all of the top 5 leagues.
