Tottenham Hotspur expect Aaron Lennon to return to the side in time for Saturday's game against Sheffield United.

The flying winger was forced to withdraw from the England squad to face Spain on Wednesday night due to a stomach bug which had previously prevented his involvement in the Carling Cup semi-final, second leg against Arsenal.

However Lennon is now on the road to recovery and should be back in time to boost Spurs' flagging Premiership campaign.

"He had very slight stomach gastritis but we're expecting him to be fit after we assess him," said Spurs assistant boss Chris Hughton.

Despite going five games without a win in the league and being dumped out of the League Cup by arch rivals Arsenal, spirits remain high at White Hart Lane.

The North Londoners are still in the FA Cup and will find out on Friday whether their bye to the last 16 of the Uefa Cup will stand.

As such, Hughton says Martin Jol's side are still confident of winning a trophy for the first time since 1999.

"As a club and a group of lads there is a real sense of optimism here, that there is still an awful lot to play for this season," Hughton added.

"We haven't delivered yet but that's what we are striving to do. Our development is going towards one direction and every player we bring in is hopefully one who will help us continue to make that progress."

I reckon we need to win this weekend - hopefully Lennon will play as well as he did against them at WHL where he was 'unplayable'

Wish those involved in mid week national team matches will come back injury free... such as Berba, Mido, Keane, Zokora, Lee... so that we have full strength squad this weekend.

It's strange how Sheffield Utd away has turned out to be a hugely important game. Anything less than 3 points this weekend and there's little to no hope of pushing for top 6 or 7.

We only have two of the top four left to play in the league, so if the players are really up for it we do have a chance of having a having a decent league position by the end of the season.

Of course this season if we do manage to win one of the 2 cups we're still in then i'll always look back at this as a successful season.

I'm sure we'll find this very difficult. I cant think of many Int players for Sheff Utd so they will be fresh. They're also a pretty physical side which we find hard to deal with coupled with the fact that its away and up North doesnt help.

I think those expecting an easy win should remain cautious. We SHOULD be capable of winning this easily - whether we do is another matter.

Someone is expecting an easy win?

Arse*** loss at Sheffield, and Wenger is still complaining about that match....

Anyway, that man is always moaning. He is still moaning about Padrew's celebration on the last minute goal at Wespam....and of course on Keane's goal from Carrick's pass via Davids, last season.

I know what you mean, but we played Sheff U in the 2nd match of the season and beat them 2-0 without a great deal of difficulty, mainly thanks to 20 minutes of sustained inspiration from Robbie Keane. The result was never really in danger after that.

This is going to be a whole different ballgame. Sheff U are no longer wet behind the Premiership ears, we're at their house and they're the team on form.

We'll have to show our attacking quality to beat them, that's our only advantage. And keep a clean bloody sheet.

Man City away was almost an easy win, we just put pressure on ourselves at the end be conceding a softish goal.

We CAN do it away from home, I just hope we've bottled all of the recent frustration up ready to unleash hell on saturday.

    Villa home was pretty easy.
