Tottenham target Leon Bailey has been asked to stay for another season at Bayer Leverkusen.
The talented winger has attracted attention from Premier league clubs this season with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, United and Liverpool all adding him to their shortlist of targets.
However, it is understood Tottenham were also showing strong interest in the Jamaica-born flyer who scored 12 goals and added six assists in 27 starts for the Bundesliga side.

Leverkusen though are prepared to demand a huge fee to deter suitors this summer and keep Bailey for at least one more season.

Bailey only joined from Genk in January 2017 for £17.5million and while his performances have excited he is still seen as a work in progress.

Tottenham want more pace in their side but Leverkusen's £60m plus valuation will make negotiations difficult.

Mods, please delete if this doesn't meet the criteria. Very exciting signing if we could pull it off, but sounds like it'd take plenty of persuading!

Think he’ll end up at Bayern. Don’t think we’d pay the fee but he’s a brilliant player.

Not entirely sure Bayern would pay that much either. I think their record transfer fee is only like £35m or so. Then again there is some weird bylaw in Bundelsliga that says if you sell a player to Bayern it has to be for 1/5th anyone else has to pay or on a free so *shrug*.

Would be a very exciting marquee level signing that I fear would also disappoint (at least initially). Incredibly talented but also very raw.

True - for some reason I thought they paid 90m for Lewandowski, but I was confusing the Higuain deal I think.

Did they not get him on a free transfer? Same with Goetze?

Bayern must be tapping up everyone in the Bendesliga the amount of talent they get on Frees!

They managed to get Tah and Brandt to stick about with new contracts and I guess they feel they maybe on the cusp of something themselves. They have a lot of young talent.

Be interesting to see if Bailey wants to stick around aswell.

Bayern and Juve get away with murder with transfers for the most part. Always nicking top players from within their leagues for small fees. Higuain was a rare blip, but even that was just a quick response to the Pogba world record sale.

Bayern even somehow blagged James Rodriguez on an initial 2 year loan from Madrid with a reasonable buy out clause. No way a PL club would have got that deal, despite Bayern being a bigger CL threat at the time.

I agree they have an exciting young team, but they did fall short of CL which can prove costly in regards to player retention.

We have dealt with them previously and seemingly amicably with Son. I know some of their players bitched about it at the time (mainly Calhanoglu who has since jumped ship) but I don't think there was a big fuss at board level. That could stand us in good stead. Wouldn't be surprised if the player opted to stay, but a move to a top PL team could also be a great option for him for many reasons professionally and commercially, especially considering his international future (may well be eligible for England and has seemingly fallen out with Jamaican FA).

Götze was £30m but yeah Bayern systematically ruin their own league by stifling any potential competition

The cryptic makes me wanna believe this but no way we're paying anything more than 50m for him

I think he's a very talented young player but, and I think I say this a lot, the numbers being talked about are mental!!

I'm not totally convinced to be honest, but he looks a very exciting young player. Sort of reminds me of Bale

Wasn't there itk that we would spend £70 million on someone if we considered them exceptionally talented cause i would put this guy into that bracket

I'm not totally sure I would. Admittedly I haven't seen that much of him, so not sure I'm best placed to comment, but, by way of example, I'd say De Ligt at £55m is a more obvious purchase than this guy at £70m, talented though he may be.

Don't me wrong, he looks very good, but for that money, with the players that we already have and what we need, I'd want someone with a bit more subtlety than him - more of an ability to 'pick the lock'. We need someone that can step in to the creative void that would be left if Eriksen wasn't available.

I'm not sure that's this guy. I could be wrong though, obvs

Would it be fair to say that it may be an either/or between Bailey and Sessegnon that we are considering?

They are not exactly the same i know, but would occupy a very similar position on the pitch.

So, judging by the posts in here, this lad is yet another wide player? If that's the case, is he predominantly a wide player, or is there a potential CM in the making?
