Wasn't there itk that we would spend £70 million on someone if we considered them exceptionally talented cause i would put this guy into that bracket

In my opinion we only have a problem if City, PSG, Man Utd, Madrid, Barca or Man City come in for a player.

If the player wants to go to us and his club can’t generate interest from one of those clubs, then I think the fee then becomes a bit more sensible.

The market is only inflated to the point that it is because of those other clubs seeing a £50m deal as small change. There’s another market for everyone else and everyone knows that.

IMO that why there was a story about City being interested in De Ligt even though that interest appears to be far from as concrete as it was first reported. If you’re Ajax you want to drive the price up.

All my onions. Could be talking shite of course! :)

What does Bailey do that Lucas and Son can't? How is he the optimal signing over a CM?

Bailey is a completely different player to Son despite playing in the same area of the pitch. Son is much more of an inside forward, whereas bailey likes to use the width of the pitch. He moves much smoother with the ball than son, is far more explosive, and has a better delivery into the box both from set pieces and open play. Son is much more of a goal threat, makes extremely good runs off the ball, and has a better "football iq" than bailey which you'd expect when he's four years older. He's also got a much better end product than Lucas and, from what I've seen of Lucas at Spurs, has more tricks up his sleeve to get past his man. A CM is a priority, but we need more diversity in attack. This guy would accomplish that

He's also only 20 yrs old. Son and Lucas are 25. Need to start grooming their replacements for when they're sold in 2-3 yrs.

I really don’t get the point of buying another winger or AM who can’t also play well as a forward. Espechially for 60 odd mil. It really doesn’t make sense to me. I feel like we should have waited till the summer before we got Moura or another, but now we have him we need to give him a proper chance. We don’t need another winger, but I appreciate the excitement players like this bring. But for me, unless we are bringing in a player of proven WC qulity such as Bale, or a player who can play up front such as Martial or Fekir, then I really don’t get why we are looking at a AM/Winger let alone spending a huge amount of our transfer budget on one.

Winner, winner, winner. It just makes zero sense from a needs and budget perspective. We need added quality at the back and in the middle of the park. We've got a pretty damn good attacking midfield group. Probably 2nd or 3rd best in the league, and we ain't gonna catch Man City anytime soon in that department.

Agree with the sentiment. I think we need the engine room of the team tweaked before going for luxury players. Son,Lamela and Lucas are already there so let's get some real dynamic players in central midfield

This guy is a completely different kettle of fish to anything we have. That will be why if he is available and if we want him we are going after him. Brings a different dimension to our attack and teams holding he uses width incredibly well with pace and can actually pass/cross to a team mate

Looking at the highlights of this kid he could easily become an absolute world beater. Searing pace, very good dribbling skills, decent size to him and a hammer of a left foot. That Leverkusen want to keep him another season could play into our hands, like you said we have other priorities such as CM (although I sense maybe our main targets here are at the World Cup hence the lack of movement).

We don't know how the budget is split however. Maybe there is a £50m or so budget for a huge talent such as Sessegnon, Bailey or Pulisic away from the obvious deals. Wouldn't put it past Levy at all. Would make sense as to why we are pursuing these players despite the arrival of Moura.

Just thought it's worth sharing that Bayer bought Paulinho the other day. He's an 18 year old Brazilian who plays on the left wing and they paid 18.5m for him. Is this them getting a replacement in for Bailey or are Bayer the sort of club that'll pay that sort of money for a player who isn't going to be a starter for them? It could obviously be that they'll slowly break him into the team this season so when they look to sell Bailey next season they've already got their man but at the same time if they are doing well it may be difficult to blood a youngster at the business end of the season. Just thought I'd put this out there.

Think you hit the nail on the head when you said slowly bring him along. It's protection for losing either Bailey or Brandt. They are such a stacked team for talent though.

Thanks for the info.

Being heavily linked with a move away this morning.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Roma all linked - not sure if we're still interested (if we ever actually were), but could see us potentially getting involved if Zaha falls through.

Although, we've got another thing coming if we think he's going to be a much cheaper option. He won't be.

Supposedly he's now made it clear to Leverkusen that he wants to leave the club this summer but no idea how true that is.

The sun was talking about him going for 35-40m can’t see them selling bailey for anything under 50m probably a bit more.

Excellent young player that has the pace and ability to be top class

Would love him at spurs if martial and Zaha are completely unattainable

He's got the potential to be some player - probably better than Martial and Zaha, but he's still young and relatively raw.

Bailey could also qualify to play for the England national team after a few seasons, seeing as he has no interest in playing for Jamaica.

Would we spend £50-60m to get him? Doubt it. Would Chelsea? Probably.
