Tbh with a bit of juggling selling off dead wood they could have a very good squad. Imo they need a CB creative CM AM/winger and sort out striker situation. All that is doable with some movement. Plus they have some exceptional young players. Hudson-odoi Ampado trevor chalobah etc. Wouldn’t right them off just yet.

Let's see if Hazard stays first

...but, as Arsenal now see with the likes of Stan Kronke, investors aren't necessarily driven only by the glory of winning. It's still possible to build a good business case around just being an underperforming PL club with an affluent support base. :)

Some of the wealthy owners (Kronke, Lewis etc.) are investors who want to protect and grow their investment. Others like Mahmoud and Abramovich buy clubs as a plaything and will throw vast amounts of money around to show that they have the best toys. They're interested in winning at any cost which isn't an investment strategy.

Absolutely. He's clearly there to use them as an extra income. Although it does make me laugh when the likes of DT say that Kroenke needs to spend his own money. He's a business man you moron, he's not going to dip into his own money to satisfy your needs.

A lot of spurs fans say the same thing about Levy.

Ive always thought Hazard wasn’t as great as lots of people thought. A good player but not Bale level. Mentioned it before on here and got panned at the time. My opinion on him still stands.

Abramovich needed a way to clean his dirty Russian money and Chelsea was that vehicle.

Think Hazard is just as likely to flop at a super club as he is to flourish. His attitude seems terrible and he's very talented but a real fair weather player.

Agree. He's the kind of player who'd fit right in at Real Madrid i.e. extremely talented but a spoiled brat

Exactly.

Abramovich needed a way to clean his dirty Russian money and Chelsea was that vehicle.

It was more to do with him establishing himself as a publicly known figure in the west in order to make it more complicated for someone in Russia to put a bullet in the back of his head/nerve agents in his tea. With the amount of money/power he has there are easier and less visible ways to launder money than through a football club.

Am sure Real will have an interest, although they will probably enquire about Salah first. Having said that, with Liverpool set to qualify for the Champions League and having already sold Coutinho this year then I think they'll find Hazard the much more attainable target.

Ive always thought Hazard wasn’t as great as lots of people thought. A good player but not Bale level. Mentioned it before on here and got panned at the time. My opinion on him still stands.

On his day he's as good as anyone but there are major red flags as to whether he can do it consistently. His best ever season in the Premier League in terms of output was last season, whereby his 16 goals and 9 assists gave him a total of 25. It's a very good score no doubt, but to put it into context - Salah, Aguero, Kane and Sterling have all beaten that figure already this season and there's still seven games left to go. Going back over the last couple of years, you've seen others like Vardy, Mahrez, Sanchez, Lukaku, Alli...even Charlie Austin, beat this score. Of course you shouldn't judge a player purely on stats, but when you compare Hazard to the other elite wide forwards in the Premier League his overall output isn't as high as you'd think it would be for someone of his obvious talent, especially when you consider he takes penalties and some free-kicks too.

Having said that, one defence he has in that regard is that unlike some of the other wide forwards mentioned he's never played as part of a free flowing, attacking side that tends to obliterate opponents. I have a feeling he'd have done better if he'd been playing for Guardiola, Poch or Klopp over the last couple of seasons...

Without looking at the stats but surely our Son has also beaten Hazards stats

I'm wondering if it's getting a bit expensive for Abramovitch now, I know he's got billions but he had billions fifteen years ago when they could buy Drogba for £23m.
Nowadays the top fees are £90m, £120m, even £200m so 4 to 10 times higher and I'm not sure his money has increased like that, it might have done but I'm not sure he can still bleed Russian peasants dry so can he really compete with the oil money of Manchester City or PSG? I doubt it and nor are they a giant club like Manchester United, Real Madrid or Barcelona whose commercial income blows Chelsea out of the water.
What this means, as I see it, is that they are in the Arsenal bracket now, plenty of money but no longer in the market for the very top players unless their owner stumps up the cash and I'm not sure he is that enthusiastic any more.
Two typical examples this season would be Lukaku and Sanchez who they couldn't get and another example would be Giroud, who they could.:)
The obvious answer is a different business model to the old pay, hire, sack, pay, hire, sack repeated ad nausium and that won't be easy.

Just to remind you that Conte said it wasn't a tragedy if Spurs screw up for us, but it is for Chelsea: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40736388

then goes on to throw his toys out of his pram for not being given endless billions to buy what he wants, publicly. You'd think a professional manager would stop to think: 'Hang on, my players might feel they aren't good enough if I say this publicly over and over.' which in a game so reliant on confidence, cohesion, team spirit, self belief etc, is one of those most ridiculous things for a manager to do.

No real surprise to see them where they are now, and now even Arsenal might overtake them!

Conte. You absolute mug. Thank the heavens you did this at a club as rotten from top to bottom as Chelsea!

Someone needs to tell him that you can improve a player's performance through coaching them; you don't have to buy a 'finished product'.
