Genuinely surprised....Chelsea always seem to go for a successful manager who stays a couple of seasons and continues to win trophies for them, then leaves. Frank must be viewed as a longer term appointment....or do they think he'll be an instant success ??...be interesting to see how it works out if it does happen.

This seems way too early in his managerial career. I know he'll have the fans and players on his side, but it's a risky move for him. Probably a good appointment from Chelsea's perspective if they intend to promote some of the youth team this year as he'll bring Morris with him.

Hopefully it means a shift and roman wants to start seeing a return on his investment. Start using all those youth players they've been hoarding all these years.

This feels like a way to keep the fans onside throughout the transfer ban.
Frank will have much less pressure on him than he would if he came in later on and he can blood more of the youth they have out on loan. Fail and it will be because of the TW ban and post ban Chelsea can just employ the next big name to fix it.

Chelsea look set to serve their transfer ban this summer.
The Blues have appealed against the two-window ban that prevents them from registering any new players.
The case was taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after FIFA rejected the initial appeal from Stamford Bridge.
But Chelsea have not asked CAS to freeze their ban and the Blues now look set to be prevented from making any incoming transfers this summer.
CAS have released the list of cases that will be heard from now until August 14 with Chelsea not among them, reports the Sun .

Transitional season then...Lampard perhaps easing himself into the managerial chair with no pressure from board or fans to become an instant success and win trophies.
We certainly cannot dismiss them because they're not transfer involved but perhaps that mixed with an incoming manager might just be enough to put them out of the reckoning for a top place next year....hope so anyway.

Just tried to remember when the last time a manager left Chelsea without them being sacked, I think it might have been Glenn Hoddle.

Rafa?

Probably doesn't count as he never signed on as full time manager.

Yeah that ones a bit of a grey area as he wasn’t much more than a glorified caretaker.

Yeah, he probably would've been offered the job but the fans made him feel so unwelcome that he had to announce that he was going to leave at the end of the season.

For once Chelsea actually gonna get compensation for a boss rather than having to pay it lol.

Wonder if they’d have got rid if he didn’t want to leave as Chelsea fans didn’t seem too keen I feel...

They must be laughing their tits off. They 100% would have got rid. He was hated by their fans and the League Cup final debacle should have been seen as the end.
They've now spent the last few weeks pretending he wouldn't have got the sack so they can get money for him going, rather than paying him money.

To be fair whenever people wave printed off A4 pieces of paper at me I feel unwelcome too. So you can’t blame him.

Sarri is a strange one, in one season he
  • Gets them back in the CL by finishing 3rd
  • Wins a European trophy
  • Gets to domestic final
  • Bloods quite a few young English players
  • Still despised by the fans
