Seems like Chelsea is trying to save some money in the compensation they need to pay to Conte by claiming he messed up on the Costa sale....

Hope this drags on for as long as possible.

Story originated in the express. I wouldn't trust the date on that paper.

I 100% agree, it’s a paper that uses don balon stories to get hits, but this is them quoting Ian McGarry who I seem to remember breaking the Chelsea wanting to buy Modric story before anyone else. So he obviously has contacts at Chelsea.

Besides Abrahmovich is probably at the World Cup enjoying himself, so I suspect making decisions at Chelsea are way down on his list of things he wants to think about when waking up first thing in the morning.

It sounds like Conte wants to make them pay as much as possible. He seems to be planning to take a year off so Chelsea have to pay him for the final year of his contract.

Reading that article states that Chelsea have to make up the difference in wages if his new contract at another club is less. He should go and manage a league one team and rake it in haha

Not enough has been made of this, the World Cup has proved a distraction for them but their situation is absolutely hilarious, it's just rank amateur negligent planning for the season and if this was happening at Spurs we'd be losing our shit and rightly so...thankfully it's not though, I know Chelsea fans who are absolutely fuming and worried that their season has finished before it's even started, beautiful. :playful:

I can't work out whether the situation is a clash of personalities between Conte and executive management, or whether Chelsea have genuine money-issues

In years gone by, Chelsea would think nothing of paying the £9.5m + £5m compo packages and get on with the preseason prep

Strange one

Doesn't look like roman is investing money in them anymore. Even last financials they had to sell players to make a profit. They were not in the cl for that period. So maybe the same case for the coming season.

I enjoy the prospect of a Chelsea demise even more than I did an Arsenal one.

Chelsea could seriously drop like a stone if they don't sort this out. Like a Mourinho's last season sort of fall. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see them outpaced by all the top four + Arsenal and for them to compete with your Leicesters and Evertons.
