Hang on a minute. I'm not criticising sterling, I completely agree with him. It's just the idea suggested by a poster on here that Kieran Dier was a good guy that I disagree with. Nothing to do with newspapers in his case cos he genuinely is a scumbag.

I was joking. He was in trouble throughout his career. And he joined West Ham.

I have indeed, not sure how this equates to the media stirring up race hate though.

There are plenty of White players who have got pelters off the media in the past, so it’s not as though they specifically target black players is it?

Don’t get me wrong, I detest the media as they look to build you up just so the fall is harder, but I’m not buying this assertion that their reporting fuels racist behaviour. Has he been racially abused by supporters of other clubs?

Sterling is a mild mannered shy lad who happens to be good at football. He has never been involved in any thing remotely controversial . Yet for "some reason" he is constantly targeted by the shit rags.

He is one of the few players I've seen that was booed by england fans while playing for england on loads of different occasions when he has never even done any thing?

I think that was the reason. 87 games without a goal can have an effect in fans.

IIRC he wasn’t popular when he forced a move through to go to Man City, but whilst that’s hardly a reason for any of the abuse he has been getting, some people can’t let it go.

He was also terrible in an England shirt for a while, but again, not a good enough reason for all the shit thrown his way.

I also think in this instance Raheem makes a genuine and valid point, but as he has in some way pissed of the media, either due to the above or at other outspoken moments and we all know what happens when you piss off the media...

A huge amount of big name players have under performed for england (it's pretty much been a defining trait of our national team for years and years) and never got booed what so ever.

Also he hasn't "pissed off" the media it's just ones with a specific demographic in their readership that decided it sold papers character assassinating him.

Large amount of Liverpool fans around these days and they hate Sterling so i suspect that has a knock on impact for England.

Work with a Chelsea fan who says they’ve done everyone a favour by beating City. Also work with a Huddersfield fan who doesn’t make the connection.

Have a look at this Twitter thread and tell me the press haven't been picking on Sterling. It's almost as if traditional, dog whistle racism has an effect on the 'hard of thinking'.

I really don’t get Chelsea, they’re one of the richest areas in London and yet their fans are the scummiest.

They have a history of racism including that incident (in France?) where they didn’t let the black guy on the train and we’re chanting happily they were racist, they hiss during our games and I know from working at WHL on match days they tend to cause the most trouble of any away fans.

I wonder if "blue jacket and glasses" guy will become the new face of Chelsea's Captain, Leader, Legend banner? He seems to have displayed the ideal credentials.

Rich people can be racist. Poor people aren’t necessarily scum. Football isn’t necessarily appreciated in Kensington but they club didn’t just move there.

We should applaud Chelsea for taking steps in banning fans who partake in racist behaviour. Especially as it impacts their plans to increase their capacity with a new stadium. Eventually they’ll have to decrease the capacity to under 10,000.
