Until recently, I didn't appreciate how good Liverpool's record has been over the years.

I knew they were good in the past (mainly the 80s), but because of my age I didn't know the ins-and-outs of it.

Firstly, you have to go all the way back to before the 62/63 season for them to finish outside of the 'Top-8'.

That is a phenomenal record!!

Then you have the 70s and 80s when they only finished outside of the 'Top-2' 3 times, whilst picking up 11 titles (and I'm sure quite a few cups, although I haven't checked that).

So it's not surprising why their fans are 'entitled' or 'deluded' with that sort of pedigree.

It also explains why they hate Sir Alex Ferguson so much; apart from the obvious rivalry, he completely stole their thunder in the 90s and 00s.

And it also explains why they're so desperate to win another league title; the last one was in 89/90 season (nearly 30 years ago).

Been talking to my dipper ex brother In law tonight. Apparently Salah has mixed with the wrong crowd and is doing very silly stuff when not in bindipper colours. Hence his shit performances this season.

It also shows that they’ve finished in the top three once in the last nine years (something we’ve now done three years in a row).

I’m 37 so can’t remember the last time they won the league and my main memories of Liverpool are players like Fowler, Heskey, Redknapp, Mcmanaman, Carragher, etc... the type of players who will flatter to deceive and not be able to grind out title challenges hell Carragher scored more goals (og’s) for us than for Liverpool

One of the main things that keeps this thread funny is the blinkered delusion that they deserve to be top dogs in the league and the media creaming themselves to insert anything Liverpool related into promo shots (y)

Luckily it’s a meaningless poll unlike the frickin’ Puskas award (who would be turning in his grave at the misjustice that Defoe didn’t win it....)

Also, I initially thought Fifa’s ‘the best’ had taken over from the Ballon d’Or, then I read that they had just teamed up for 6 years and now they’ve gone separate from last year. But am I right in thinking both are voted for by players and managers. What’s the difference?

Completely stole their thunder by finishing 1st when a Liverpool team ended in second place one time in Premier League history? :cautious:

Fair enough, wrong phrase to use :)

Should have said what Fergie said; knocked them off their perch

Like what though? Given that he's quite a strict Muslim I doubt he even drinks alcohol and therefore almost certainly wouldn't do drugs.

He likes a drink apparently

Interesting if true. He claims he doesn't:

From https://edition.cnn.com/2018/04/24/football/day-with-mo-salah-spt-intl/index.html

"Nutrition is so important, it's part of the game," he says. "It has helped with my recovery, allowed me to sleep better and helped my body adapt quickly."
He adds, "My nutritionist says that because I don't have any fat on my body, I can eat what I want. I also don't drink so it's fine."

More likely teams are now playing to stop him. He was never going to repeat last season's numbers, as many of us predicted.

He's still getting into goalscoring positions, his finishing just hasn't been as clinical.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him hit form soon.
