Roy Keane with some pretty brutal analysis of Liverpool football club last night, on ITV's highlights show:

It's hard to figure out Liverpool at the moment, it's hard to get excited by them. To me, it's like they're going nowhere fast. Come the end of the season, when the prizes are being given out, Liverpool will be nowhere near them.

There's not too much to say about Liverpool. If they were playing out in my back garden, I wouldn't watch them.

Wait.... A club player of the month????? Like seriously? Do they get their face on the wall like those "employee of the month" crap?

Do we have the same thing? I hope not.

He's kinda trying the Shankly quote but didn't quite nail it:
"If Everton were playing at the bottom of the garden, I'd pull the curtains."

They signed the perfect player for Spurs last summer, though: Mohamed Salah.
Yes, he cost £35M but that is almost a bargain in to day's crazy transfermarket. And it wasn't much more than Spurs paid for Sissoko the year before (and the transfermaket was not as crazy then). Spurs really lack a speedster like Salah up front.

We have a speedster in Son. If Poch thought more pace in the front line was essential he would play him more often and over others that usually get the nod first. Fact is Poch would rather play a slightly different way most of the time.

Good result for Liverpool today. Draws them level on points with Burnley.
And just one point behind us........ until we batter Palace later today. But in all seriousness as bad as we think Liverpool and Arsenal have been, they're still only a point behind us

Look at the goals conceded column though. Both of them have been smashed by 3 or 4/5 goals this season. Liverpool twice in fact. They concede far too many goals.

We've had to adjust to Wembley and deal with Burnley, Chelsea and Swansea parking the bus. We should have beaten both Burnley and Swansea and gotten a point from Chelsea, that's an extra 5 points a very different outlook on the table then. Obviously we didn't. But if you're going to say, as bad as Liverpool and Arsenal have been then you need to look at how bad we've been at Wembley up until 3 weeks ago.

Son may be fast but he's not a speedster. And he lacks the first touch, close ball skills and often lack "visions" with his runs.
Sure, against teams that park the bus - which most teams does vs Spurs now days whether home or away - speedy feet is often nost the most effective way to break down their defense... the fact is that Pochettino tried to sign Mane, did sign Clinton and N'koudou, so you can't say Pochettino can't find a place for a quality speedy CF/WF in his system. If he had one.

I'd suggest that the reason Poch doesn't play Son that much is because he's wildly inconsistent. Pretty sure he went on record this summer saying he wanted more pace in the team. Unfortunately for him, the players Levy serves up tend to be more Moussa Sissoko or GKN than Sadio Mane or Salah.

I never said he couldn't find a place for one in the squad, just that he more often than not chooses not to play one. Horses for courses with Poch and he plays different skill sets against different teams.

Just watched the highlights from the West Ham game on motd and if they'd of been playing a better team I doubt they'd of won. They were awful in defence yet again.

I expect to see Man U and Liverpool start to fall away between now and new year.
Results wise they're up there but if you'v watched them play they're both winging it and that'll show over the course of a season.
Just my onion.

I don't understand some of our fans' obsession with "speedsters" as you put it. Our main problem going forward is breaking teams down who sit back and park the bus. In that situation there's no space to run in behind so what good does having a "speedster" do? You need players who can either run with the ball in tight spaces i.e. Dembele, or players who can thread lethal passes through a compact defense. Speed means nothing if you don't have space.

I'd half get it if we had a properly slow team, like Everton for example, but we don't. We probably don't have anyone as fast as Mane/Salah, but we don't have a particularly slow squad either IMO.

It gets said again and again on here. Some people won't accept it. They see someone that can run fast and score and think it's the answer to our troubles at breaking down teams that sit back.

It’s mainly just people looking for possible gaps in our squad. An alternative to our options. If we had a Darren Bent style striker plenty of people would bemoan our lack of a good hold-up player who is strong in the air.

There was a brief period where we had Lennon and Bale on the flanks (though they didn’t play together all that much, in reality) and suited our counter attack style. As soon as clubs started sitting back against us more often, Lennon became next to useless and Bale got moved into a roaming number 10 slot to make the most of his other abilities.

We want (not necessarily need) a player that most clubs on the planet would want; someone who can run at players in the final third and beat them. Obviously there aren’t many Messi’s available on the market.
