I can be 100% sure that if Karius didn't 'show his suffering' he'd get stick for that as well. Once the media and fans dislike a player, he can do nothing right.

Exactly, if he'd just walked down the tunnel never to be seen again then everyone would be slating him for not facing the music etc. Like I say I thought it was the right thing to do to go over to the fans and own it, it's a nice gesture I reckon and the last thing most people would want to do knowing full well that you'd be getting dogs abuse the whole time

I understand the criticism of him showboating around town etc. (if that's true, I dunno), that's fair enough, but I don't really get where Hamann is coming from with the rest of it.

I don't think he was begging for forgiveness he was apologizing to the fans for letting them down. I actually thought it was brave of him to do that to be honest and I'm sure he just wanted to go down the tunnel and disappear but he stood up and owned it and faced the fans. Not sure what there is to criticize about that really.

As for "showing his suffering" I don't see how you can criticize Karius for that. I think if you looked back at the final whistle clips of every CL final ever then you'll see 11 players on the losing team showing their suffering. Don't really understand Hamann's point at all there to be honest.
None of us would want to be in Karius' position. No other player would want to be in Karius' position, including Pennant and Hamann. He royally fucked up the day for so many fans of his club, including those directly in front of him in the stadium.

It'd be my natural reaction to bury my head in my hands, and then apologize to the fans you let down. Silly reactions from both ex-players who've played at the highest level, but never went through the horror of giving up two goals in a CL final.

I think Liverpool will get one of Alisson, Oblak or best case scenario Donnarumma this Summer.

They absolutely need to make a statement goalkeeper signing. Their team is shaping up to be phenomenal, sadly I doubt they're going to settle for someone like Butland.

Wasn't he the bad guy out of the doctor strange film?

I’m prett sure most of us wouldn’t mind earning his salary and bring a professional footballer. He screwed up and plays for Liverpool those are easily offset by his weekly wage.

Absolutely. Which is why saying none of us would want to be in his position is a weird thing to say.
You Alan Partridge? We all know professional players earn loads. It's a football forum. Being instrumental in losing a CL final for your team has to be a horrible feeling.

All you're saying, is so what, he earns shitloads.

Looking like Jasper Cillessen from Barcelona. Apparently they've made their interest known & he wants to go. Having never seen the lad play, I don't know if that's a reason to laugh at them?

Nope.... I am a huge fan of him. sweeper keeper like Lloris. Would be gutted if they got him.

Just imagine if he’d been filmed partying at 6am with a massive grin on his face...

Sure they would have given him the same praise they’ve lavished on Klopp

Not judging from the actual statement mate.

"My sympathy with Karius is limited," Hamann told Sport Bild. "We don't have to discuss that he decided the final with his two mistakes. Something like that can also happen to a professional footballer. But what I didn't like was his behaviour afterwards.

"To publicly show his suffering after the final whistle was just as unnecessary as his tearful asking for forgiveness from the Reds fans."

Hamann went on to suggest that Karius' ego exceeds his performances, and took a dig at his alleged personalised number plate - highlighting that is something Cristiano Ronaldo could get away with given his success in the Champions League.

"Liverpool fans forgive their stars just as well as any other, the anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' is part of life out at the club," Hamann added.

"With one exception: when your ego doesn't match your performance. Karius drives through Liverpool with the personalised number plates 'LK1' and makes waves in the city whenever he steps out.

"That is something Cristiano Ronaldo can pull off in Madrid, because he has won the Champions League five times.

"Someone like Karius has not achieved anything yet in his career and should be happy to have been given the chance by Klopp at a world-class club."
I think his point about the ego is hard but fair.

If they sign Fekir I doubt we will be laughing at them so much next season, they will be challenging IMO.

No-one can deny that Karius' initial mistake was all his own making, but what gets me is how Liverpool failed to respond to RM's introduction of Bale for the last 30 minutes. He was unmarked for Madrid's second goal, and there was no-one closing him down when he took that pot-shot for the third goal. Anyone who had done his homework would have known how dangerous Bale is in this position - after all, he scored plenty of similar goals for Spurs in his last season at WHL.

However, deflecting the blame onto Karius is a convenient way to take the pressure off Klopp and the rest of the Liverpool team. (Incidentally, is this the sort of tactical nous something that Klopp's absent side-kick Zeljko Buvac used to provide?)

LOL

(Hamann obviously doesn't pay attention to twitter much then).
